05/13/2009 Big Bad Voodoo Daddy (Rochester, NY @ Lilac Festival Stage)

By Eric | May 14, 2009 10:39 am

Since I know virtually nothing about them, this is going to be a review at a 3rd grade reading level.

I saw Big Bad Voodoo Daddy at the Lilac Festival. It was fun. There were a lot of people there. I sat on the ground on a blanket and talked with my friends. The band was good. They played for about an hour and a half. They played the one song everyone knew about 3 bottles or something*. They also played the “hidey-hidey-hidey-hi” song#. Everyone sang along and it was fun. I had a good time.

*Yes, this would be “You and Me and the Bottle Makes Three”.
#BBVD did a mini-tribute to Cab Calloway, and one of the songs was “Minnie The Moocher”

First thing I think of when I hear Cab Calloway?

It’s 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it’s dark, and we’re wearing sunglasses. Hit it.

Curtis: “Do you guys know ‘Minnie the Moocher’?”
Murph: “I once knew a hooker named Minnie Mazola! ”
Curtis: “No, the song! Minnie The Moocher!”
    Steve: “Yeah, so what?”
    Curtis: “Hit it!”

They covered Minnie on their (first?) CD too.. and while I really like BBVD, this cover makes me want to listen to Cab’s

they probably also played a song Baloo sings in the Jungle Book (wanna walk like you.. talk like you… ) and another you may have recognized that doesn’t really have words other than “Go daddy-ooohhh!” and is mostly a sax solo

man, someone’s gotta teach you and tiff some basic swing moves. Even with a few of the most basic steps, it will look like you’re professionals to most who’d be watching.. lol.
I’d offer but that might be a bit of a drive for dance lessons.

Ah yes, they definitely played the Go Daddy-O song, not sure on the Jungle Book one.

And you wouldn’t want to see me dancing. It’s just… bad. Tiff’s parents actually went for lessons, so they’re pretty decent at it. Not us. 🙂
