07/14/2000 Deftones, Glassjaw (Rochester, NY @ ESL Center)

The first of two Deftones shows in a row! By the time Sara and I got there, we only saw the last two seconds of Glassjaw, but neither of us were ever really into that band, so not that big of a deal. Sara didn’t feel like getting crushed, but I was all-in from the word go. I made my way down to the floor and got pretty close to the front. For whatever reason, they left the majority of the boards (and the glass!) up for the rink, so the place was an absolute sauna. Almost as bad as the ’98 Bizkit show at the Funhouse. As for the show itself, Deftones played all the good stuff, including the Depeche Mode cover of To Have and To Hold (which I forgot about until looking at the setlist!), Chino launched into Cube’s “Wicked” in the middle of Engine No. 9 (always a live favorite of mine), and they stopped 7 Words halfway through to play Weezer’s Say It Ain’t So. And then they closed with Be Quiet and Drive, and Headup. This was a pretty amazing show! As I mentioned, it was rather hot in there, so much so that my shirt was soaked through, and we had to make a quick Wal-Mart run so I could purchase a dry shirt for the ride home! And the best part? Got to do it all over again the next day at Runwayz!

As with the Runwayz show the next day, a bootleg of this show exists, but all I ever find is the lists, never actually any bootlegs. 🙁 I’ll keep looking!
