07/28/2002 7th Annual BluesFest: Little Charlie and the Nitecats, Sean Costello, Willie and the Reinharts (Buffalo, NY @ Lafayette Tap Room)

By Eric | July 28, 2002 11:59 pm

The 7th Annual Lafayette Tap Room BluesFest was the first real concert I’d been to with Dad! 🙂 We got there about 3:30pm (it started at noon), and on stage were the NY All-Stars, who brought up a bunch of local people to play with them for a song or two, unfortunately, I don’t recall any of the names, save for Allison Pipitone. In any event, even with the changing cast of musicians, they were quite good. Next up was Willie and the Rheinharts, another local act that tore up the stage… these guys were really great, even though they only got to play for about half an hour or so. Next up was a kid that couldn’t have been much older than me at all, Sean Costello, who came from Atlanta, GA. This kid smoked too, very very impressive. After his set Dad and I picked up some dinner (BBQ pulled pork, cant beat it!), and hung around for one more act, Little Charlie and the Nitecats. They were a little more old school, two of them dressed in suits, an upright bass, etc. They were impressive as well, with some really long improv jam sessions in all the songs. We didn’t stay for the
closer, as we were both tired, but for the 5 hours or so that we were there, we got treated to some amazing tunes, and the $10 was well worth it! 🙂
