Back to Molson Park for the second time in two months. Trucked up with Katie (and Nicki? Can’t remember…) Everyone sort of remembers this as the show the day AFTER Pearl Jam played there. How they got the place turned around in one day I have no idea. I do know we hardly left the side stages. I remember watching some of BTK, Esthero (I’d her her/them a week later at Buffalo’s Edgefest as well), Eve6 was pretty good (and Raine came out to introduce them), I don’t remember anything about Harvey Danger, had to suffer through Hayden (blech) to see Fuel for the first time (of many to come), and Fuel rocked! We happened to meet Jeremy Taggart from OLP walking around during the course of the afternoon, and got a couple of pics and autographs. As far as main stage, we saw most of Garbage’s set. After Garbage was I Mother Earth, and if I recall correctly, this was IME’s first show with Brian Byrne, and while the vast majority of the set was spot on, he forgot some of the words to One More Astronaut! The crowd bailed him out, thankfully. We wormed our way up to the front by the time OLP came out. Unfortunately, they played an abbreviated set due to some technical issues, and the impending thunderstorm, but even in their short time OLP opened with a new song called “Yourself” (apparently only 1 of 2 times it ever got played live), and I got to hear Julia as well. The last act of the night was the Crystal Method, and during their set the rain started to come down HARD. Needless to say we were all a bunch of drowned rats trudging back to our cars. Not exactly the storybook ending to an otherwise fun show.
A live clip of Yourself, which allegedly was only ever played twice, so it’s a 50-50 shot that it was from this show:
