10/05/2002 The Tragically Hip, Sam Roberts (Syracuse, NY @ Landmark Theater)

I had first row seats for this one… and it was worth it! Sam Roberts was a kinda hippie bluesy/jam-band guy, him along with the rest of his band all looked like they needed haircuts hehe. The music was pretty good, and they had tons of energy. All the Canadians started getting loud and rowdy when the set change break came, and the place was deafening when the Hip walked out to start the show… The show was one big singalong the entire night, with Gordie looking like he was having the time of his life up on the stage. The band sounded awesome, never missing a beat, and Gordie going on his trademark rants during almost each and every song. The show was simply a really good time! The setlist was: Silver Jet, Music @ Work, New Orleans is Sinking, Fully Completely, Grace Too, Are You Ready, Bobcagyeon, Nautical Disaster, Use It Up, Courage, It’s A Good Life If You Don’t Weaken, Poets, The Dark Canuck, Hundredth Meridian, The Dire Wolf, Gift Shop, Little Bones. ENCORE: Scared, All Tore Up, Blow At High Dough. There was a nice spread over all the albums, obviously with a focus on In Violet Light. The Landmark is a great place to see a show, and it felt smaller for some reason than the first time I’d been there, to see Fuel and Saliva. Even the acoustics were great!
