10/22/2003 Seether, Shinedown, Tony C. and the Truth (Syracuse, NY @ Bridge Street Music Hall)

My first trip to the Bridge Street Music Hall, and its a pretty nice place. Definately made for music, with a spacious stage and while the room itself isn’t huge (its on the order of a Water Street), there’s plenty of room and it sounded good. The first band on, Tony C. and the Truth, were a bluesy type band with a DJ, and an MC that sounded much like Everlast. They were quite good, and had the crowd interested through their entire set. Shinedown was up next, and for never having seen them before, I was impressed. (I guess Seether picks good openers! See the 02/15 Ra and Seether review) I only knew the single (Fly From The Inside), but the rest of the songs were pretty cool, hard, except for what I guess is gonna be the next single, a haunting song called “45”. The singer’s stage prescence was awesome, he reminded me of a mix between Sebastian Bach from Skid Row and the WWE’s Edge, which worked well. His voice on the other hand, when not screaming (much like Sebastian Bach interestingly enough!) sounded a lot like Jimmy Newquist of Caroline’s Spine, which is not a bad thing! There were quite a few people there for Shinedown that knew all the stuff, so that always helps the band out. After this, Seether came out, and ran through a similar set to the Penny Arcade show, including Hang On and Burrito, and they played Sympathetic this time, as well as the Nirvana cover of You Know You’re Right, (and didn’t play Pig or Fade Away) and again closing with Broken acoustically. I managed to snag a drumstick, and got my CD cover signed by all of the guys after the show. A fun night and a great show!
