11/07/2009 The Tragically Hip (Syracuse, NY @ The Landmark Theater)

By Eric | November 12, 2009 4:42 pm

I had bought a set of 4 tickets with TK as soon as the show went on sale, and then a week prior to the show I actually won another pair from Live Nation on Twitter, so he got two more friends to take them. The six of us met up at the Exit 44 Park & Ride, and we set sail down I-90 for the ‘Cuse. We dropped our stuff off, meandered around Armory Square for a little bit, and finally shuffled inside the theatre. Most Hip shows are full of loud, rowdy, and usually drunk fans, and this one was no exception. The energy level was high all night (As per usual), and the band started the massive sing-a-longs right off the bat with Love Is A First right into Courage. I finally got to see Locked In The Trunk of a Car!! This was my 9th Hip show, and until now I hadn’t seen it. Also, this show turned out to be rather heavy on Road Apples tunes, as we got Fiddler’s Green, Unplucked Gems (another one I’d never seen!), Long Time Running, and Little Bones. They revived Family Band (hadn’t seen that on either of the two prior WATS shows), and Gord had a ridiculously entertaining rant during Hundredth Meridian, including heading out into the first couple rows of seats, and inviting a fan with the best “white ‘fro” I’ve seen in quite awhile to join him standing on the seats.
