Count me in, I’ve got an extra few bucks.

I especially love how it’s in a climate-controlled warehouse – how much of this can he possibly be listening to?

From reading the article I found on Fark, not much. It sounded like he was doing it for cultural preservation reasons, moreso than listening to it all. Someone broke it down to 5 albums an hour, 24 hours a day, from birth till 70 years old. Ya just gotta play all 5 at the same time!

Imagine going to the Record Archive and saying “I’ll buy one CD of everything you have new and used”

By the way stamped CDs have an estimated life span of 30-200 years (bad – perfect storage climate). Not that long and hence I don’t think “cultural preservation” should be dependant upon a physical medium like brittle plastic. Sorry, but I think the “worlds greatest music collection” is better kept in a timeless medium, i.e. these distributed computing-type collections: Rhapsody, Yahoo! Music, Napster, Pandora, Amazon, etc. …many probably already have a larger collection than this guy anyway 🙂

hehe, except Yahoo! Music is shutting down… lotta good that does you. Plus, Mr. “I can’t be bothered to read the website”, a lot of it’s on vinyl!!

And Adam, he didn’t steal all of his collection, like those having the larger collections do/did.

Upon further thought, preservation is pointless… …the only thing lasting any impressive amount of time (>3K years) have been stone carvings, papers/things entombed in stone (sea scrolls, mummies) and the Rolling Stones. Common theme? yes, stones. So forget it, unless they start making CD’s and digital storage databases out of stone, we might as well give up. Music is doomed no matter what we try 🙂

but don’t worry [eric], we wont loose it in our lifetime

By the way eric, yes, Yahoo! Music is shutting down but accounts are transferred to Rhapsody music. So “lotta good that does me” is moving from a service with 2 million songs, to a service with 5 million songs…bummer…

    Ouch baby, very ouch.

I knew it was going to Rhapsody, I just didn’t think I’d get the scathing comeback! Dammit!
