The Sell-Out Gets An iPod
Tuesday, February 17th, 2009I caved. Hook, line, sinker. I bought a 120GB iPod Classic (6th gen.)
After my beloved Archos died, I tried a host of other MP3 players, including the Creative Zen, and the SanDisk Sansa that I got for free from the Woot Off. Both had their good and bad points, but chief among the bad for both was the fact that 8GB just wasn’t enough. After being able to carry every song I own around with me, being forced to whittle it down to 7% just didn’t cut it. The other big negative to the others, including the Archos, was car integration, or rather, lack thereof. You just can’t beat the iPod as far as the wealth of car mounts, chargers, and accessories in general. So armed with a couple of Best Buy gift cards from Christmas, I winced and plunked down for the iPod, and in the next day or two I’ll most likely own a Griffin Tuneflex Aux also.
As a side note, though, as a new iPod owner, my shit now no longer stinks, I have accepted Steve Jobs as my savior, Justin Long is my new role model, and my smugness factor is now through the roof.

The Recording Idiots Association of America
Saturday, September 27th, 2008There’s something inherently funny about seeing people that actually paid for online music getting locked out of their collection because the DRM license server is getting shut down. And it’s not a fly-by-night company either! Don’t pirate music, buy our crippled stuff instead! Your music files have to phone home every time you listen to them, just to make sure you’re legit, but we’ll never shut those servers down… promise! And if we do, we’ll bury the information on how to get your files to work again, as opposed to just unlocking them, because, well, that’d be too easy, and we certainly can’t give you what you paid for. How would we get you to buy them again?
This isn’t the first time either. And the RIAA wonders why everyone pirates music! For the record, Amazon sells completely free and clear MP3’s for about a buck apiece, and they always have specials on albums. I’ve actually bought a couple of b-sides for various bands, and the MP3’s are fine, fully tagged, and I’ve copied and moved them around with no problems. THIS IS THE WAY TO GO, MR RECORDING INDUSTRY MAN!
Check Baby Check
Thursday, September 25th, 2008The new MySpace Music site isn’t too bad. They have a lot more streaming music now. Still a lot they don’t have though. (How about all the bands putting their b-sides up that you can’t buy/get in North America, or have to buy 5273854 different copies to get? I’m looking at you, every band on the face of the planet.)
