The Short Way To Take The Long Road

Sunday, August 31st, 2003

Like most high profile albums usually do, the new Nickelback album, The Long Road, got leaked, and…. don’t let the single fool you. This CD is harder than Silver Side Up was, and save for the last two songs (which on first listen, didn’t really grab me), is pretty damn good. Someday is kind of an oddity, but it doesn’t really stick out as much as one would think. I’m kinda peeved that the 3 bonus tracks on the digipak are songs that have already been released (Saturday Night, Yanking Out My…, Learn The Hard Way) instead of the other songs that got recorded that didn’t make it on the album (Next Contestant, Slow Motion, etc). And everyone can say whatever they want about Nickelback (too radio, blah blah…) I don’t care… I like ’em. And they’re gonna be in Utica on November 1st πŸ™‚

street teaming!

Friday, July 11th, 2003

From a rock/metal parody page on Roadrunner’s page… really funny if you’ve ever done street team stuff, even funnier if you know who most of the bands are… πŸ™‚

Nation Rocked by Turf Wars Among Street Teams

A bit too much of it hit close to home… where do you think I get all them stickers from? πŸ™‚

Illegal Downloading of Internet Tracks Boosting Sales of Albums

Well DUH!! And the biggest thing that the record companies seem to forget that if they would LOWER THEIR PRICES to a more reasonable level, they’d more than make it up on volume. And the article is absoultely right, the singles market would dry up, and with good reason. Who’s gonna pay $5 for two songs? That’s just stupid. (Don’t get me started on the imports market, that’s another rant for another time).

Anyway, last night I went out shopping with Mom for Matt and Lisa’s wedding gift, and then I went out with Danielle and Adrienne, and let me tell ya, Chippewa is DEAD on Wednesday nights. Hot Damn. The Crocodile Bar had bike night or something, all I know is I got two free BBQ sandwiches out of the deal. Other than that it was kinda bunk, so we headed to Wild Wings, and closed that place down… at 1. They close at 1!!! All the better for getting to sleep at a decent hour.

just because I want to

Wednesday, July 9th, 2003

Two more tidbits before bed:

1. Britney (FINALLY!) admits that she let Justin hit it… – DUH! Who did she think she was fooling?

2. Spike Lee drops his suit against TNN/SpikeTV – I’m changing my name to “Word”(tm), and then I’m gonna sue anyone that uses any type of “Word”(tm) for fun and profit.

That’s all folks.

Theory Rocked!

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2003

I’m back from the show tonight (well, after being on the phone with Tiff and taking a shower!)… as always, the review is forthcoming, but suffice to say that all 3 bands were great, despite there only being 50 people (at most!) in the place… Theory of a Deadman was of course excellent, and I got my souviniers like always (signed cd cover and setlist, and a couple picks!). But both 40 Foot Echo and 3 Days Grace rocked it pretty hard as well. Adrienne and Danielle enjoyed themselves, and I think were more into the openers!

Sleepy time round these parts, gotta wash the garage with the new powerwasher to make it squeaky clean for all those attending on saturday!

Currently Listening To…

Monday, June 30th, 2003

the sound of my butt firmly planted in this chair…

But seriously, in the ever-relentless pursuit of doing less typing, I found a neat winamp plugin (and javascript) that will automatically update the webpage with whatever I’m listening to at the moment (providing CDDB and the ID3 tags all say what they’re supposed to!). BlogAmp is the neat little thing thats allowing me to do this. I played with putting the script in the moveable type template header, and then having the script called from each individual post, but that doesn’t seem to want to work quite yet… something else to play with πŸ™‚

Now all of you can make fun of me for what I’m listening to at any given moment. In addition, I found out that if I’m not listening to anything in winamp, it displays whatever the last song played was. So now you can also see what song is driving me absolutely nuts because it’s the last thing I heard!

doubleDriving to the landmarks

Friday, June 27th, 2003

Well, since there was no food in the house, it was off to DiBella’s for lunch on Thursday, and then just a bit of driving around. The mail was the most exciting part of my day up to that point, because my doubleDrive demos came in!

In a nutshell, after dD put out 1000 Yard Stare on MCA Records, six months of touring later, the label told the band they couldn’t push the record anymore, and to go back and record a new one. So they did, finished a record, and then MCA dropped them all together. Roadrunner finally picked them up, and half of this newly recorded album made it onto Blue In The Face, along with some brand new stuff. The songs that got left off are whats on this disc that I got, and let me tell you, every one of them could have been on an album, they’re that good. It was like getting another dD album altogether!!

So that aside, I hung out at Sara’s house (not the apartment!) for a bit in the afternoon, we wandered over to Mercer’s house because his truck was in the driveway. Turns out he was in North Carolina on a job interview! Mike gave me his cellphone number though, so now I can get ahold of him! We headed to the apartment, where Adrienne and her friend from work, Sarah, were waiting for us to head to Thursday in the Square. Sarah was visiting from PA, and was an intern of sorts at Adr’s place, and since she’s a big finger eleven fan, she came with us to the show. We got there just as they started, and they played a pretty long set for being the openers! Never seen garbage cans used as beach balls before!!We didn’t stay for Default, instead got a nice cold drink, and after dropping Sarah off, went to go take more pictures with Sara. First stop was the Central Terminal, and then the old Buffalo Psych Center. Fun stuff! (See Sara’s site for all the pictures and stuff)

We came back to my house for a minute to pick up Amanda, and then headed to the apartment for a little drinky πŸ™‚ Danielle came over, as did Sara’s friend from work Tony. We had a pretty good time, including a walk to Denny’s at 3am… and Amanda drove home πŸ™‚ heheheh.

New CD Storage

Sunday, June 15th, 2003

So I ended up going with my parents to Allentown again today… same stuff, we seemed to cover it a lot faster this time. *shrug* Dunno. But after we got home, I took off for a little bit, and went to Target… lo and behold, a Case Logic 208 Capacity CD binder, on clearance for $5!! Rock on! Now *ALL* of my burned CD’s can go in the car πŸ™‚

Heading to Sara’s soon to try and fix the router problem once and for all… funny, it always works while I’m there, but never after I leave πŸ™‚ hehe…

“I TOLD YOU LAST TIME, ROUTERS IS MAGIC!!!”

Mid-Weekend Update

Sunday, June 15th, 2003

Tiff has gone and departed back to Newfield… We had a pretty good time here this weekend πŸ™‚ Thursday night she arrived, Friday we did some shopping, a CD run (Tiff completed her New Found Glory discography, she’s got em all now!) and then hit up Rock’N’Roll Heaven in West Seneca to see That 80’s Hair Band with Danielle and Adrienne. Saturday was the Allentown Art Festival with Sara, and then we had Jake’s birthday party here with the family. We’re all a bunch of screwballs… we have fun at our parties πŸ™‚ hehe. Jake even brought his girlfriend around and subjected her to the inquisition that usually ensues πŸ™‚

I think I’m probably going to go with my parents to the Art festival again, just for something to do, plus its Father’s Day, so family time is always good πŸ™‚ Chip and Cathy invited me to go with them, but family’s gotta win out somewhere πŸ™‚ hehe.
