Ain’t That the Truth

Saturday, March 22nd, 2003

“At the beginning of Flip Records, it was us, Staind and Limp Bizkit and we were like a tight family,” [Cold singer Scooter] Ward remembered. “But everybody pretty much went their own ways. We’re still cool with each other, but it’s not like it used to be.”

Of course it isn’t… Fred thought he was more bad-ass than everyone and tried to take over the world… it’s no surprise that Staind and Cold toured together last year, and they’re playing dates together this year as well… You guys didn’t need Fred anyway…

Grave Decision Time

Dearest Matt,
While I feel for you in this time of crisis, I feel a rash reaction would do no justice to the situation at hand. I would adivse a policy of total and utter inaction, and attend neither of the two concerts, instead coming to a fine residence such as 156 University Commons, and bemoaning your lack of entertainment over some fine Canadian ale.

Thank you for your prompt attention to my esteemed opinion on such a sensitive subject.

At least they admit it…

Just heard on a 94.1 The Zone promo:

“We take your favorite bands… and make you hate them.”

No truer words have ever been spoken. Maybe if you wouldn’t PLAY THE HELL OUT OF THE SAME FIVE SONGS, that wouldn’t happen!!!

(Pete, I know you’re gonna get a kick out of this one… as I’m writing this, Taproot’s “Poem” comes on!! AAAAHHHH!)

A great weekend so far…

Sunday, February 16th, 2003

Thus far, its been going even better than I thought it would 🙂 Friday night Tiff got out of class, and after exchaning our Valentine’s pleasantries (thank you kiddo!!), we hit the mall for some grub, and got to the arena about 6:30… The place ended up being packed as usual, and RIT defeated Elmira 5-3 in a fairly exciting game, lots of rough stuff, fan taunting, the usual 🙂 hehe.. After that we joined Karl, Kelley, Chip, Cathy and Joanie at Empire for some post game festivities…

Saturday during the day was my time to wrap up the Computer Crime paper, all thats left is to whip up a presentation… yay powerpoint 🙂 hehe. Once that was done, Tiff came back from the labs, and we left for our belated Valentine’s dinner, to DaVinci’s on West Henrietta… a very nice place, and the food was good too! After that we chilled at Tiff’s place for a little bit, and then it was time to rock!!!

We got to the Penny Arcade about 8:30 or so, just as Noise Therapy was starting… got in (got a ticket stub, how about that?!) and rocked out. The review is up here, but as a synopsis, Ra was up next, and I have not been so impressed with an opening band (that I didn’t know beforehand) in a long time!! They have a middle eastern tinge to them (not as blatant as the Tea Party, but in the same vein…) These guys rocked!! No one seemed particularly interested in the setlist for some reason, so I grabbed it, and got it signed… then it was Seether time… and they were every bit as good… they put on a great show… and I got a setlist from them also!! AND got it signed by the guys… a TWO SETLIST NIGHT!! 🙂 *PLUS* a drumstick from Nick from Seether!! (Ra is on the left, Seether is on the right):

I have to give a quick shout out now to the two girls in front of us, one of which takes pictures for StaticNoise.net, the site has pics from the Greenwheel/Hoobastank show at RIT, and eventually will have pics from the OLP show and this one…

So the parents are coming up today with Jake, Tiff’s parents are coming up also, and we’re all heading to Beale Street for dinner.. should be a fun time!!

Headstrong

Wednesday, February 12th, 2003

…the name of that song that was driving us all nuts in the crew room on Tuesday… Trapt got in Pete’s head, and then the rest of ours… so we’re singing it all day. Yep. Gotta love overplayed radio.

Tuesday was a long one, just like every other tuesday, I did get stuff done though, however, especially on the Routing and Switching project, which is coming very nicely… 3-Tier Hierarchical Model anyone? 🙂 I got to set up the NAT router, and did it right this time!!

I trudged home afterward, and after cranking out some slides for our Network Design presentation, Tiff came over and we got some quality Scrabble time in 🙂

1:30 will be the usual lunch time with Tiff, then after I drop her off I’m meeting the guys back in the netlab for more Routing and Switching fun 🙂

You’re Seeing Them AGAIN??

Friday, February 7th, 2003

Yes, again. Our Lady Peace before my very eyes for the 14th time. Yes, the 14th. No, I’m not sick. (Okay, I am, but that’s besides the point.) I’ve been going to see this band for six years now, starting on June 11, 1997. They’re finally coming to RIT for a show, something I’ve always sorta dreamed of since I got here. And now that it’s happened, its almost bittersweet, like it took them too long, like they’re not in their prime anymore. I’m still excited, I’m still looking forward to the show, and I know I’m gonna have a good time. It’s just that the last two albums to me haven’t quite matched what Naveed, Clumsy and Happiness did for me. Mike Turner isn’t playing guitar anymore, and he was always the one that was the most “fan-friendly”, and the one always willing to talk. And now that he’s gone, it’s just not the same anymore.

Having said all that, I’m still expecting a fun show, as OLP has always sounded great live, (Raine’s voice sometimes notwithstanding), and tonight should be no different. I’ll still be wearing my trusted, faded, holes-here-and-there, why-the-hell-are-you-wearing-that-again OLP shirt from that first show back in 97. Why? Because I have to. Because its tradition. Because I’m “that guy”, that wears the shirt of the band I’m going to see… FROM 4 TOURS AGO! Which means I was there way before any of you snot nosed “Somewhere Out There” teenybopper wannabes. [/RANT]

So anyway, if you’re going tonight, look for me and Tiff, and the rest of our crew near the front, the patented white RIT concert hat will be atop my head, rockin out as per usual. And lest we forget, Greenwheel is opening!!

RIT does a concert right?

Wednesday, January 29th, 2003

1/31 Henry Rollins @ Harro East
2/06 Greenwheel @ Bridge Street (Syracuse)
2/07 OLP and Greenwheel @ RIT

RIoT Rich!!

Thursday, January 9th, 2003

Quick indeed, out by 10, in by 1… shot home to NT to pick up some of the miscellaneous crap I left, like a jacket, all the DVD’s I got for Xmas, another CD rack, etc. Found out we got a new dishwasher… go figure! Hit the auto parts store to replace my taillight bulb, which lit up, but wouldn’t let my turn signal flash. So that’s fixed. Back up in Rochester, picked up Tiff from work and caught lunch. She had to work again at 3:30, so I went with her, and then went to the Syslab to get some more NetAdmin done. Got some stuff done, headed to ETC to chill for a bit, then got Tiff at the end of her shift and went to her place for dinner (mmm deep fried french fries!!) and put in her new burner. Came back home and studied Computer Crime for a bit, half paying attention to my Nickelback DVD…

I came into my room to find 4 IM’s about this song by some dudes called Logic X, turns out “RIoT Rich” is all about our RIT “culture”. So I fire up good ol DC, and sure enough, the welcome message is pushin the song, and they were smart enough to put up a RAR with lyrics in it!! Not throwing them all up here, but here’s a taste:

got a new tackle box and a photoshop server
hair cut lookin like rainbow sherbert
I wear, sandals in the winter (it’s true)
I don’t buy books, just glitter and glue
have second year standing til I’m 24
raise a family at the art house, second floor
out of all programs, yeah, art’s the hardest
I’m not lazy, I’m a starving artist
even if you think my art is garbage
you’ll love how dope my shopping cart is
drop art? maybe when I’m not retarded
my portfolio’s still hot regardless
friends hit the weed til they choke and they faint
all I need? dry macaroni and spray paint
drawing every day, wow, I’m amazin
probably co-op in the tunnels, working on a painting

It’s only funny because here, its so damn true…
Ok. Ok. Here’s a link to the song! (7.9MB)

a night out with the parents

Thursday, November 28th, 2002

So yes, the night out on the town with the parents…. rather interesting…. We picked up Adrienne, and we met Sara and Nate at Hard Rock about 10ish, and the first band went on about quarter to 11 or so… The DollyTramps or something stupid like that. Imagine the worst punk band you’ve ever seen, combined with a singer that makes Courtney Love look like a virtuoso, and you’d have this band. Just absolutely shitty chord and a half “riot-grrl” garbage. And they threw tampons at us during a song titled “On The Rag”. “Excuse me, can I go see ICP now? I think they’d be more entertaining.” Anyway, we got our relief after a half hour when the main attraction “That 80’s Hair Band” came on. These guys are awesome! It’s just 80’s hair metal covers, but its so damn cool!!! While we were there, they played 18 and Life, Talk Dirty to Me, Bringin on the Heartbreak, Bang Your Head, and the last song before we left was Tesla’s “Modern Day Cowboy”. Ever see me when I can’t stop grinning, as in, uncontrollably? That’s what these guys do to me…. its hysterical! So we figured we’d check out the Casino and maybe the Hard Rock “club” thats on the Canadian side. Well, if we’d been able to get over the bridge in a timely fashion. The bridge was backed up all the way back over to the American side, so we said screw it, and went to Denny’s instead! It was funny being there like we always are, but with the parents there too! We didnt quite make it home till about 2:15 or so, so it really was a typical night out for us. hehehe.
When did my parents get so cool? 🙂
so Grandmas house for turkey this afternoon, gonna get stuffed!
current mood: I’m hungry now dammit!
song: Audioslave – Light My Way
shirt: AIC / Queen of Hearts

encore medley

Friday, November 22nd, 2002

The review is forthcoming, but suffice to say Sevendust was every bit as good tonight as they were Saturday…. AND, they did a little medley of covers during the encore!!! Walk (Pantera), Master of Puppets (Metallica), Sweet Child O Mine (GNR), and We Die Young (AIC)…. it was sweet as hell!! It was the same setlist as Saturday’s show, actually for all the bands, but it really seemed like Sevendust had more fun tonight…. if thats possible, cuz they always have fun up there!!!
So now I’m home and its time to hit the sack, cuz tomorrow morning isnt coming early enough, driving to Rochacha to meet Tiff and bring her back here for two days… should be a blast!
