60 watts in geneseo

Monday, November 18th, 2002

So as it turns out, Geneseo was a chorus/orchestra concert, and they performed Hadyn’s “The Creation”. So why were we there? Tiff’s parents are friends with a couple, Carol and Gary, and their daughter Lisa was a part of the chorus that was singing in this concert. So Tiff’s mother came down to see the concert, as did Carol and Gary, as did Lisa’s boyfriend and his mother as well. Tiff’s best friend Becca joined us also. So we all took in the concert, which lasted for the better part of two hours, and was a wonderful performance. After that we headed to see Lisa’s dorm room (if you’ve seen one Geneseo dorm room, you’ve seen them all! hehe), and then we went out to dinner. It seems that one of the best restaurants in Geneseo, the Big Tree Inn on Main Street, takes Geneseo food debit, and since Lisa had tons of debit to burn, she was going to take us all out. Dinner was quite enjoyable, if not long. The steak I got was excellent however! Since there were so many of us, Becca graciously paid for Tiff and I with her copious amounts of food debit. Twas a nice treat indeed! It was pretty cool to hang out with that many new people at once, a little nerve-wracking trying to keep the names all straight, but I did okay πŸ™‚
We got back about 8:30 from that excursion, Tiff dropped me off at home, and I headed right back out the door with Adam to the Bug Jar for some more metal! Sixty Watt Shaman and Alabama ThunderPussy!! hehe (WHAT A NAME!!) Sixty Watt was really impressive, reminding me of a Corrosion of Conformity type of band. ATP was much in the same vein, just straight up hard rock. The review will be forthcoming!! Now its time to hit the sack. πŸ™‚

a battle scar to impress the parents with

Sunday, November 17th, 2002

So much for the car last night… I’da tried, but no WD40!!! Dammit I’m so unprepared! So Tiff came over with her car (Thank You!) and I actually made dinner again (ok ok, it was frozen fish in the oven, nothing special!!). I dropped Tiff off at her place, picked up Jason, and went to the show… got in line out in the freezing cold about 6:30, and realized that neither of us brought our earplugs.. DOH! I refuse to do shows without earplugs anymore if I can absolutely help it. So what did we do? Came all the way back to RIT of course! Gathered up our earplugs, and drove back to Water Street, got an even BETTER spot on the bridge somehow, and walked right into the place, seeing that it was now 20 after 7… the review will be up shortly, but for the rundown, we got in while Closure was playing, by the time Cinder got up there we were 3 back from the barrier, and after 30 Seconds To Mars we got barrier! Had it for all of Sevendust’s set! Halfway through the encore during Waffle, I got my BEST.CONCERT.BATTLESCAR.EVER. πŸ™‚ Crowdsurfer went over, and while he was flailing around, I got kicked in the face, so I’m now sporting a nice two inch red mark below my right eye… it’ll prolly bruise eventually, but it still looks cool! πŸ™‚ hehehe… (my eye is fine, I had it closed, do not worry!!) I still hate crowdsurfers though… BUT THATS NOT ALL!!! So Sevendust is usually pretty liberal with giving out picks, Morgan throws a couple of sticks…. on this night though, seeing as he went through two of them, I also got BEST.CONCERT.SOUVENIER.EVER!! Long arms come in handy when they throw out a DRUM HEAD like a frisbee!!! I GOT A DRUM HEAD!!! Sweet!! (Oh, yeah, and the show was great too!) Jason didn’t go away empty handed, he got a Sevendust setlist πŸ™‚ hehe. So after I dropped him off, I came back to Tiff’s to give her the car, and iced down my eye/cheek, and then we came back to 156.
Today is another Geneseo choral concert, but this time Tiff’s parents are also going, as the person we’re going to see is the daughter of Tiff’s parent’s best friends, and supposedly we’re getting dinner down there as well… So I get to meet Tiff’s parents for real this time, as opposed to the brief introduction a couple of weeks ago.. so that should be cool, and then after that, me and Adam are going to the Bug Jar for another metal show, this time, its the 60 Watt Shamen, and Alabama ThunderPussy….. how can you pass up the opportunity to see a band called Alabama ThunderPussy??? For $5!!!! hehe…
Current mood: still giddy from last night!!!

coasting to the nonpoint

Tuesday, November 12th, 2002

Just kinda coasted through tuesday during the day… Our Needs Assessment presentation went off without a hitch, then came work, then Network Programming, which we really didnt have, so I just went home. Got an email for a Tenure review for one of my IT professors, so I filled out the student questionnaire and took that into building 1… drove around Rochester for a bit.. came back home in time for my 5:30 tech transfer group meeting that really wasnt a meeting, so home again, dinner, and then reading for State and Local Politics… and now this… yeah, not the most exciting day ever…. until I checked the mail and found that not only did I get the Nonpoint indie CD I ordered, but I got my Audioslave street team stuff as well!! One of those nice 8×10 record company publicity photos, and far too few stickers and an even lesser amount of CDs… the CD is only a 1 track of Cochise, so its not like its the coolest thing ever…. πŸ™‚ But still exciting nonetheless!

Cantrell in Ithaca

Monday, November 4th, 2002

Ithaca, NY…. wonderful place to visit, and probably wouldn’t mind living there! hehe…. Anyway, me and Adam headed out of Rochester about 11:30, and got into Ithaca at about 1:30… Found Kelley’s apartment with no problems, and we were greeted by Karl, Matt and Lisa as well…. so as soon as we got there, it was off to downtown Ithaca for lunch, to Rulloff’s, where they had a sunday brunch menu… kinda interesting, sandwiches, and then omelettes and other breakfast stuff as well… lunch broke up around 3, and Karl took us on a mini whirlwind tour on the way back to Kelley’s place. Karl, Matt and Lisa left for Rochester soon after, and after a bit of lounging, Kelley showed us some more of downtown, the “Commons” area…. all kinds of little shops and boutiques and things like that… while we were out, Tiffany got ahold of us, as she had to head home as well for the next couple days, so we ventured out of Ithaca proper to go see her house and pick her up… I got to meet her mother, who was very nice, and offered us cookies! πŸ™‚ We checked out (according to Tiff) Newfield’s lone attraction, a wooden covered bridge, which provided seconds of fun during the time we were in it!! (I’m kidding! It was pretty cool!) So around 5:45 dinner was onto Franco’s, a local italian restaurant proclaimed by Tiff to be her favorite, and Kelley had heard glowing reviews as well, so we decided that would be the place to go… yes, yes it was the place to go indeed! The portions were fairly big, and the fact that we’d just eaten at 2 didn’t help matters either, so I only ate half of what I ordered, boxed the rest up, and promptly left it in Kelley’s fridge! DOH! But the food was excellent, and we practically had the place to ourselves for a little while, we seemed to have beaten the dinner crowd for a sunday night, because rumor has it that the place is almost always packed. After dinner we came back to Kelley’s place and hung out a bit longer… and since I had forgotten earplugs, it was off to the new Target to get some… aka a timewaster, as we spent a good chunk of time in there just browsing… It was about 8:30 by this point, so we took Tiffany back home, and stopped back into her house for a couple minutes, as I had the pleasure of meeting her father as well. Back on the road to the show right? Nope, Adam left his ticket in the apartment! hehe… so back to Kelley’s one more time, and then onto the Haunt, which was only 5 minutes away… JERRY!! JERRY!! The doors were at 9, so the ticket said, we got there at 9:15 and Comes With The Fall was just finishing up…. I’ll post the full-on review later, but Mad at Gravity was decent, they seem to be another Incubus/Audiovent/Hoobastank sort of band… Udora was next, from Brasil so it was said, they weren’t too bad, actually got better as they went on… and Jerry was Jerry… first half was all his solo stuff, 2nd half was all Alice stuff….. it rocked! We got out of there about 1, shot back to Kelley’s for a bit, thanked her profusely, and hit the road… rolled into Rochacha exactly at 3am… zzzzzzz!! Thankfully I have class starting at 2pm today!!! It’s off to Tech Transfer and State and Local right now… So stay tuned for the Jerry Cantrell review hopefully later tonight!!
Current mood: blah, dont wanna go to class

Cliff died, and you weren’t even born yet!

Tuesday, October 29th, 2002

So this morning I woke up to Joe coming home, he stayed over one more night at home, feeling a little under the weather… poked around the house, had the usual 11am breakfast date with Scott and Bob Barker hehe… threw together our Tech Transfer paper with Joe, and at 2 we were out the door for class… Tech Transfer was alright, and then Politics was a blah class… talking about the shift in politics in cities to what is now “urban politics”. Blah. Hit the mall for food and did a little grocery shopping with Tiff after class, and then chilled for a bit until 8 when Karl came over, we picked up our pizza and watched the football game… a hard-fought Eagles win over the Giants… caught a bit of a VH1 show about obsessed fans (I’ll get into that in a second) and then watched the first half of Conan…. as soon as I’m done with this its bedtime… πŸ™‚
Ok, a little rant about this VH1 show… I’m not sure what it was called, but the segment was about these two girls that became insane Cliff Burton fans…. for those that don’t know, Cliff was the orignal bass player for Metallica, who died in a bus crash in 1986… First off, these girls were talking about Cliff like they knew him personally, how he helped them through all their rough times, and how they feel he’s “still alive within them”. These girls aren’t a day over 17, making them 1, 2, 3 years old at the most when Cliff died. How traumatized can you really be? It’s like me being devastated that Stevie Ray Vaughan is dead.. I love his music, but I was 10 when he died.. meaning I had no idea whatsoever!!! Now people will say that I put a lot of stock into my music also, and I do, maybe too much sometimes, but regardless, my world is not devastated by the loss of a member of a band before I even knew they existed. I’m a huge Alice in Chains fan, but did I slit my wrists when Layne Staley died? Of course not! Why then are these girls on the verge of dying due to a death that happened 16 years ago?? To me, this segment was even worse than all the kids that jumped on the “let’s mourn Kurt Cobain” bandwagon in 1994 when he blew his head off… at least we were alive and hearing his music when that happened. I still think 99% of the kids were latching onto thin air with that one, but it made a shred more sense than this one with Cliff Burton did. Ugh. I guess my pet peeve is these kids that don’t take this music for what it is, entertainment that strikes an emotional nerve, rather than seeing it as their whole life, and that they must live and die by these people and bands.Again, I realize that I sound somewhat hypocritical saying that, what with how much I get into my music and bands, but I’d like to think I know when to step away and take it at face value. Its this separation between real life and entertainment that I think a lot of kids today don’t make, and it’s leading to a whole host of bigger problems…
Ok, soapbox is over… discuss amongst yourselves… I’m getting verklempt!!

my Cochise is leaking

Friday, October 25th, 2002

Actually got up and made it to work hehe… Work was freakin hectic today! Our Friday mornings are usually low-key.. I dunno what the hell happened this morning, or last night, but there were jobs sorta not done, jobs that got done but the tickets werent filled out, phantom jobs that kept popping up…. grrrr. But that was only till about 9:30… the last hour and a half was perfectly fine… Headed over to the Stat lab to chill with Tiffany for a half hour till she got done with her shift, then to the Crossroads for lunch… after lunch I headed home, found one new Audioslave song (Set It Off), got the Cochise video…. and found out that the real album got leaked… IF ANYONE HAS THIS YOU BETTER NOT BE HOLDING OUT ON ME!!!!! heheh… So after that excitement, it was off to get a haircut, hit some thrift stores, find Matt a present, etc. Came back and cleaned up a little, did laundry, took a shower (to get all that itchy hair off my neck!) and now its just about dinner time… mmmm dinner… Tonight brings the hockey game, then Matt’s birthday party at Genny Park! Both promise to be a rockin good time!

unity among slaves

Tuesday, October 15th, 2002

from Pimprock:
Unity Among Slaves – wookubus
(6:48 PM PST 10/14/2002)
Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello recently took the time to comment to Launch on the bands early false start, here’s what he had to say:
“Well, there was a tremendous amount of drama and unnecessary conflict, which was generated by our managerial situation, Timmy and Brad and I had a management company, and Chris had a separate manager, and there was not enough room in the picture for both of them, and it created an enormous amount of conflict, which for a while undermined the band’s solidarity.”
The band eventually aligned themselves with a neutral third party management company which cleared up the rift, leading to their current situation which Morello also discussed, saying:
“We couldn’t be more united, a great deal of love and respect for each other, which we’ve had even during the Ozzfest period, and so (we) are united in our rock power and looking forward to taking it to the masses.”
Audioslave will release their self-titled Epic debut on November 19th.

Guilty Pleasures

Sunday, October 13th, 2002

Okay, this idea is a direct rip-off of the VH1 show I’m watching called Guilty Pleasures… theyre going over the top 20 or so songs that, as they put it, are buried at the proverbial back of your music collection, that you bust out when no one else is around and scream at the top of your lungs, yet you’re probably embarrased beyond belief to admit you own, let alone know! So anyway, I wanna see a ton of comments in here hearing about everyone else’s guilty pleasure songs, and why…. so here’s mine, and everyone thinks that its the early 90’s middle-school rap/R&B stuff, nah, thats not quite guilty, I really do get a kick out of that stuff hehe… nope, its really:
Matchbox20… Both albums. All signs point to, “Why the hell do you have those cds???” Cuz its whiny and sappy and singable and, well, yeah… boohoohoo heheh..
So lets hear everyone elses!!!! I don’t want anyone punking out on this either… ain’t nobody too proud for this πŸ™‚

what building number is that again?

Saturday, October 12th, 2002

So yes, the full-on Friday recap! Work indeed came too early, thankfully there weren’t any 8:00 jobs πŸ™‚ Poked around at work, visited Tiffany working in the Stat lab in Bldg 8 for a bit, finished out the work shift, and then headed over to 113. Kelley, Joe and I walked over to 9 to get Karl, John, Scott, and Samantha, and then we hit the Ritz for lunch… only to meet Matt down there! So that was fun, we walked back, and headed out on the town. Best Buy was first, then Karl set up his new cell phone at Verizon, and finally… Beers of the World πŸ™‚ Walked around, perused, and of all things, me and Karl decided to go ghetto style and get 40’s…. and only the ghetto brand too.. St. Ides! So that’s chillin in the fridge right now πŸ™‚ Came back, poked around for awhile, then I picked up Jason and his roommate Colin, brought them back, and walked to the Gym for the show. The review will be up later, but for the quick synopsis: Greenwheel: awesome, didn’t play nearly long enough; Blindside: these guys suck… I was outside for most of them, collecting autographs from the Greenwheel guys; Hoobastank: Much better than I thought they’d be, they sounded good, lotsa energy, made it worth the $10. And we didnt get our ticket stubs back! I HATE THAT! Seeing that I managed to snag a setlist (with Kelley’s help, thanks!), I wasnt as broken up about it as I could have been. The CAB office did put out whatever leftover posters and stickers they had, so I finally got a Greenwheel poster and a couple stickers…
Dropped off the UR boys back at their place, and headed over to Rustic Village to hang out with Tiffany (after figuring out on my own what the building number REALLY was!)… Watched TV, figured out they really get more channels than they thought they did, and made MTV magically appear… and got fed brownies hehe. Got home way too late, and then got up way too early to do the run with Dan, Tobi and Jason…. Finally replaced my missing Disturbed CD, The Sickness finally has a home in the collection, and unwittingly became CD #600 πŸ™‚ Hit Brandini’s Pizza for a little bite to eat…. and now I’m kinda in a holding pattern waiting for the parents to show up… I get to go to Dino! yay!
Current mood: just chillin
song: Disturbed – Conflict
