Review:
When I first got this album, I hated it. I wondered what the hell happened to the STP I knew and loved. But I kept giving it another try, and it grew on me to the point where I feel I appreciate it a lot more now. The music is some of the best stuff they’ve done, without going ‘commercial’ or making a Core II or Purple II. A little older and a little wiser makes for a mature album.

Review:
STP came back with a mix of all three previous albums on No. 4. Heavier tunes coupled with more of the lighter psychedelic type songs from Tiny Music made for an impressive return after all of the turmoil after the release of the third album.

Review:
Every bit as good as Core, but for different reasons. Unafraid to slow things down, but not go completely acoustic, the songwriting became even better with this disc. Also gave MTV News its little sound bite (from Lounge Fly). The back cover says ’12 Gracious Melodies, while the track listing only shows 11, due to the fun hidden track dubbed ‘The Second Album, performed by lounge singer Richard Peterson.

Review:
Lumped in with the Seattle grunge movement, STP’s debut in 1992 fit perfectly in the musical landscape at the time. Every song is great, and the album holds up a decade later with no problem.

Review:
Come What(ever) May is simply a great heavy rock record. Everyone’s heard Through Glass, but songs like 30/30-150, Reborn, Made of Scars, and Hell & Consequences really make this record. For me, the clincher is the last song, Zzyzx Rd., which is a piano ballad, proving (to me, anyway) that Corey Taylor can pretty much do any kind of music he wants successfully.
As far as the special edition goes, in true Roadrunner Records fashion, six months or so after an album comes out, here comes the re-release. I’ve gotten wise to this tactic (see KsE’s End Of Heartache), and I’m just flat-out waiting until the special edition comes out before buying anything. In this case, this one is definitely worth it. Five bonus tracks (that are more than just throwaways, the songs are actually record-worthy!), including an acoustic cover of Chris Issak’s ‘Wicked Game’ (Huh’ But Corey pulls it off!), and a DVD with a full live show from Moscow, plus four studio videos. And just because they like us, a popped-up version of Zzyzx Rd, which adds echoes to the vocals, and chops the last minute of the solo at the end. Unfortunately, they don’t like us that much, because this version sucks. The proper album version is much better, far less produced and glossed over.
In short, if you’re gonna buy this album, spend the little bit extra and get the special edition, it’s worth it for the DVD alone, let alone the bonus tracks.

Another Roadrunner re-release, this one tacks a couple unreleased tracks onto the end, and includes a DVD with the bands videos on it.

Review:
Her first “real” album after the collection of covers, and she took it in more of a pop direction. There’s still soul and R&B in there, but I like the style on The Soul Sessions better.

Review:
Dad turned me on to this CD, as he was introduced to it by a co-worker. As it’s all covers, this album is a precursor to her first real album and wasn’t originally planned to be released. I’m glad it was, because this girl can sing. My favorite is the soul-influenced take on the White Stripes’ ‘Fell In Love With A Girl, which she not surprisingly, changes to “Fell In Love With A Boy”.

Review:
As with most halfway decent bands, the label drops support as soon as the second album comes out. Such was the case with Stereomud, although admittedly, the first album was better. There’s still some standout songs on here though, and they deserved a better fate.

Review:
An EP to whet the appetite for the full-length release. Much better production values than either of their other two albums, and help from Chimaira’s Mark Hunter on ’13 Years’ make this 5-song EP a worthwhile listen.
