Review:

All the reviews about this album were dead on. 10 tracks of pure, brutal, unadulterated American Metal. Tons of solos, the electronics contribute without beating you over the head, and Mark Hunter screams like a banshee. Just awesome. While not something that you can get into upon first listen, but after spinning it 10 or so times it starts to sink in that this is just a great metal record.

Review:

The first real Chimaira CD (for Roadrunner anyway). Didn’t get this until after TIOR, and that’s probably for the better. This is a good album but nowhere near as good as the follow-up. There’s too many different styles on here, and it’s like they couldn’t figure out if they wanted to be nu-metal or just metal metal. Rizzo features some guitar work by the Deftones’ Stephen Carpenter.

The album where everyone else found out who Chevelle was. Actually sold out at Best Buy the day of release, had to go next door to Target to get it. As with the others, if you’ve heard one, you’ve heard them all.

Review:

I first saw the video for Mia, and thought the visuals and the sound were very Tool-like. The whole album is certainly in that direction, although Chevelle has backed off that sound a bit. This CD was actually released on Squint Records, a short-lived Christian label.

Review:

I found out about this band simply because they opened for The Watchmen at Milestones, and I was quite impressed. This album is actually a compilation of the best of their four previous independent releases (which are damn near impossible to find). Very good melodic pop-rock.

#Thrills
#Short Skirt, Long Jacket [Live]
#It’s Coming Down [Live]

Review:

After an excruciatingly-long pre-order period, I finally got my Cake CD in the mail! This collection is exactly what the title says, combining a bunch of songs off of various compilations, singles, and promo CD’s. I had a bunch of these, but not all of them. Some that I didn’t have are their cover of War Pigs (which shows up again as a hidden live track at the end of the CD), and a weird original song called Thrills. The three songs from the Pressure Chief Extra Value disc are here (Ruby, Strangers In The Night, and Conroy (albeit a remixed version)), Mahna Mahna, Multiply The Heartaches, an awesome take on Barry White’s Never Gonna Give You Up, and Excuse Me (I Think I’ve Got A Heartache). There’s also live versions of Short Skirt Long Jacket, and It’s Coming Down. And to top it all off’ a scratch and sniff album cover’!’! How cool is that’ In any event, definitely worth it if you’re a Cake fan! The only thing I wish would have been included would be A) the vocal version of Arco Arena, and B) Half As Much. Can’t have everything!

Review:

The Deftones’ bassist spoken-word poetry album. If it hadn’t been him, I wouldn’t have ever considered buying a poetry CD. I probably still won’t. I bought it at the Deftones show at Runwayz in 2000.
