Review:

I got a tape sampler from the Warped Tour in ’98 from Victory Records, and these guys were on there (along with Snapcase and Hatebreed). The songs are the usual hard punk, not quite hardcore, but passable.

#Keep A Good Man Down

#The Lies That I Believe

Review:

After the demise of Big Wreck, Ian Thornley put together a new band (including bass player Ken Tizzard formerly of the Watchmen) and ended up with Big Wreck part 2. That’s not a criticism, in fact, it makes Thornley a bit more accessible, and the songs are catchy as all get out. A great album to just put in and rock out to.

Review:

In addition to his solo album, Target had an exclusive disc with different versions of two songs, two remixes of the single, “Lonely No More”, and then three non-album tracks, ‘Not Just A Woman’, ‘You Know Me’, and ‘Dear Joan”, which is actually quite an old song dating back to the Tabitha’s Secret days.

Review:

The voice of Matchbox Twenty put out a solo effort, and it’s certainly not MB20. This is out and out pop. He actually experiments a bit, and it’s not too shabby. There’s a couple rockers, but mostly pop, and he proved he can also succeed at the slow piano-influenced ballads.

Tesla – 1986 – Mechanical Resonance

#Modern Day Cowboy
#Changes
#Little Suzi
#Love Me
#Cover Queen
#Before My Eyes

Review:

I had a friend in high school that had a couple of Tesla albums, and let me copy a couple. I only ever remember Modern Day Cowboy from that tape, but no matter. Tesla is a great 80’s hard rock band that while indeed having long hair, were always a cut above the usual hair-metal tripe. The title is a nod to Tesla’s experiments with the natural resonance of the Earth and other electromechanical devices.

Review:

I can recall hearing No Way Out on the radio, and really liking the song. Who knew the rest of the album would be just as good’ An even more solid effort than the first album was. The title of the album is a reference to the fight between Tesla and Marconi over the patenting of transmitting over radio waves, which was finally settled in Tesla’s favor in 1944, a year after his death.

I was bombarded by this band in high school, but there are some quality songs on here, mainly on the 2nd half of the record, and thankfully they weren’t radio singles so they didn’t get played to death.

#Me & My Girl
#Since You’ve Been Gone
#Hell Just Ain’t The Same
#Save The Best For Last
#In The Middle

Review:

The second album takes some getting used to, because they didn’t copy the formula from the first album, instead opting to stretch their songwriting legs. The result is more what subsequent Theory albums will probably sound like, with different tempo changes. It’s an interesting and satisfying listen, and doesn’t sound completely like a Nickelback clone this time around.

#Invisible Man
#Nothing Could Come Between Us
#Make Up Your Mind
#Point To Prove
#Leg To Stand On
#What You Deserve
#The Last Song
#Say I’m Sorry
#Any Other Way

Review:

Following in the footsteps of their benefactors, Nickelback, but with a sound distinctly their own. They don’t wuss out nearly as often, and I’d argue the songwriting is better. Plus Tyler Connolly has a cool voice.
