Thursday, April 15th, 2004Seen on Fark today:
“of course all punk rockers are lefties [politically], that way they dont have to get jobs and “sell out”, they can mooch off of the rest of society.”
Had to laugh… 🙂
The Pulse of the Maggots
Thursday, April 15th, 2004So the show last night was pretty cool indeed… In a nutshell, Sworn Enemy was like every other NYC hardcore band… i.e. nothing to write home about. Chimaira sounded really good and really tight, and got the crowd into it… Fear Factory was kinda boring actually, I didn’t know much about them before, and they didn’t win me over any… and then it was time for Slipknot. They still can perform and entertain with the best of them. Yes, it’s mindless. But damn is it fun 🙂 The review (and the Sevendust one!) will be up shortly…
This won’t make it into the review, so I’m posting it here. Since this was the Jagermeister tour, naturally they’d sell Jager… and Budweiser… and Pop… BUT NO WATER! There wasn’t any place in the building that you could buy water. Yes, you could possibly drink out of the sinks in the one restroom they had open, but seriously, how can you have a show of that caliber (i.e. people moshing, jumping around, etc.) and not sell water? Not even getting overcharged for it, but none at all. Not the smartest course of action in my book.

Rochester Sno-core
Wednesday, March 24th, 2004Last night, due to the generosity of one of my co-workers, I got free tickets to see the Sno-Core tour at Water Street last night. Trapt headlined, and they were pretty decent, about as good as when I saw them open for Nickelback. Smile Empty Soul wasn’t any better than in Buffalo (which wasn’t good to begin with, and the meet-and-greet was lame too). Finger Eleven only got 30 minutes to play, and 5 of the 6 songs were from the new album (the one that wasn’t was Costume for a Gutterball, which I’ve *never* heard them do), and newcomers Strata weren’t bad at all for openers.
Tonight after work we’re going to a Tiff show… Edwin McCain at the Tralf. Should be a nice intimate show, not too many people, good tunes, good times, etc 🙂
Dumb Music Survey Time!
Monday, February 23rd, 2004Throw Winamp on random and jot down the first 10 songs it plays (according to what I saw… no matter how embarrassing. I don’t own anything embarrassing!)
1. Moist – See Touch Feel
2. David Usher – St. Lawrence River
3. A Perfect Circle – The Nurse Who Loved Me (Live 11/01/03)
4. Days of the New – Enemy
5. Korn – Trash
6. Pearl Jam – Go (Live on Two Legs)
7. Matthew Good Band – She’s Got A New Disguise
8. Gravity Kills – Alive
9. Caroline’s Spine – Forget
10. System of a Down – Peephole (Live)
10 out of 9540 songs on Winamp. Not the best cross-section of my music… or is it? 🙂
No More Doubledrive :(
Thursday, November 27th, 2003Hello friends and fans of the band.
It’s been 6 years since the first spark that eventually lead to the creation of doubleDrive. Donnie, Josh, Mike and I have ridden the roller coaster of ups and downs that forged the great friendships and many songs between us that I am very proud to have been a part of. We have, however, decided that all good things must come to an end. Our last show will be in Atlanta, GA at the Cotton Club on November 28th, the day after Thanksgiving. We hope that you realize this was not an easy decision for any of us to make. It’s not easy to come together as brothers and put an end to something that you have put so much into and loved so much. Donnie has worked very hard to get a street team site started and we are disappointed that we won’t have the chance to use it.
Thanks to all of you for your support at our shows and for sticking with us through our down times. We have been fortunate to have met some wonderful people in the music industry that have gone out of their way to bring this band’s music to the listeners and we would like to thank you. This having been said, I don’t believe this is the end for any of us as far as music is concerned, and we will each be looking forward to seeing all of you again. If you have the ways and means to get down to the Atlanta show, we would like to see you there.
Please keep checking back for updates about what the band members are up to, as well as news about some other things that are in the works.
I wish I could have seen them more than once… but I’m sure they’ll be better off doing their own thing, as they never could seem to crack the mainstream market and get some notice. Ah well, I have my albums and the one show I did see, and it was great while it lasted!
Perfectly Circular
Friday, November 21st, 2003I’m in Rochester for the time being, Tiff’s got one more final today and then we’re off to Horseheads to visit her parents for the weekend.
Knock Knock.
Who’s There?
Little Boy Blue.
Little Boy Blue Who?
Michael Jackson.
Thanks Maynard! He was ripping on MJ all night long… in any event, as always, the review will be coming shortly, but for my own recollection purposes, as well as for anyone that’s interested, the setlist last night was as follows: vanishing, pet, the hollow, magdelena, weak and powerless, rose, blue, thomas, the package, 3 libras, the nurse who loved me, gravity, the outsider, the noose, judith. No encore, but none needed. They sounded great! Year of the Rabbit wasn’t half bad either… considering the other band that had been opening, The Icarus Line got terrible reviews. More on this later!

No Fuel that is… they (not really sure who “they” is) cancelled the Fuel / Revis show at the Landmark Theater in Syracuse that was supposed to be on Wednesday. This is now the 2nd time that I’ve had a fuel show cancelled on me, the first being back in 99, they were supposed to play at Water Street, and again I had tickets in my hand, and they backed out. The reasons being thrown around for the cancellation on the fuel message boards were a phantom “scheduling conflict”, or supposedly the venue was saying it was slow ticket sales. Either way, its still shady. My conspiracy theory? Revis got really pissed off and sabotaged the show because Ticketmaster spelled their band name wrong on the ticket… 🙂
So other than that, its been a slow day in Vernon, I did a little grocery shopping, and not much else. Looking forward to actually doing something work-wise on Wednesday! The paid vacation has been nice, but I’m ready to work again.
Serves You Right?!
Thursday, October 30th, 2003Woman breaks both her legs protesting loud music
Associated Press
10/20/2003 — RIDGEFIELD, Wash. — Toni Lynn Lycan, 44, got so mad about the music blasting from the apartment downstairs that she jumped up and down as hard as she could – and broke both her legs, according to police in Ridgefield.
The injury was discovered when officers were sent to the Carriage House Apartments on Thursday afternoon, Police Chief Bruce Hall told The Columbian newspaper in Vancouver.
Lycan yelled at her downstairs neighbor, Allen Haines, 27, to turn down his music. Haines then grabbed a broom and banged the handle on his ceiling.
That infuriated Lycan, so she jumped up in the air and slammed both feet on the floor, hard enough to break both her legs about 4 inches below the kneecap, Hall said.
Moral of the story? If it’s too loud, you’ll hurt yourself complaining about it… just let it go! 🙂
