i die, and all they want is the cd’s

Tuesday, September 10th, 2002

My sister posted this on her blog this morning:
I had this dream two nights ago that i just remembered. I dreamed that Eric (my brother) died suddenly somehow. It was really weird cuz everyone was like “What do you mean Eric died?” and I was like “Eric died.” I dont remember too much I remember that all his friends were arguing over which CDs they wanted from his collection cuz obvisouly he didnt have a will and I was telling them that no one was getting any of them cuz they’re all staying together. Thats about all I can remember…
Damn straight no ones getting any of them…. Im taking them with me! 🙂 heheheh….

sour stones

Tuesday, August 27th, 2002

Just got some of the Stone Sour MP3’s (Corey and Jim from Slipknot’s side project)…. and these songs are great!! It’s not Slipknot-like at all… Corey sings quite a bit, and some of the songs are really really melodic… definately gotta get this CD!
that is all. 🙂

tully’s tool

Monday, August 26th, 2002

Sunday afternoon started with me just driving around to a couple places, half-assed sneaker shopping (anyone know where I can get my old-school Adidas shell-tops for less than $65? Highway robbery ain’t my thing…) but mainly driving around with the Grand Prix now that Amanda’s at school and not driving it 🙂 hehe… Got Sara about 3:45 and we got lunch/dinner before the Tool show in Hamilton. So we went to Tully’s on the Boulevard. We get seated…. and wait…. and no one comes to take our drink order. 10 minutes roll by, and a server from another section comes over and notices that we never got served. So he takes our drink order… in the meantime, the manager comes over, and apologizes, and says that our beverages and an appetizer are on the house. So the server comes back, and we were just gonna order potato skins. Well, he convinces us to take the most expensive appetizer on the menu, the sampler platter… um ok! So That comes, and its huge ($9.50 worth!). So we’re picking at that, and our orders come, and we’re like, oh man, can’t finish! hehe… lotsa stuff to take home! So the whole deal ended up being $16, not too shabby! And the server we did get, from another section, ended up being really cool…
so we finish there, I switch cars to take the trusty escort, and head to Sara’s house to wait for her friend Muhammed and his girlfriend Jenny. I met Sara’s Aunt Trudy, who had a bunch of stories from being in Europe…. hehe she’s pretty cool 🙂 Muhammed and Jenny show up, and we’re off to Hamilton to see TOOL!!! We decided to take the Rainbow bridge because Sara’s mom said the Queenston was backed up pretty bad. Rainbow was very light, and then we hit Canadian customs…. musta been quota weekend for them, because the car in front of us got pulled into secondary… and then we did! First time for everything I guess… So we pulled off to the side, got out of the car, and two customs agents checked out the car…. no big deal, obviously we’re not bringing anything! So we’re on the road again, and got to Copps Coliseum with no further incident.
The review will come later, but TOOL was awesome, we missed Tomahawk (color me disappointed…. the 10 minutes we did hear werent impressive at all). Our seats were great, we were in row 13, but since our side was infront of the removeable seating… we had first row so to speak! Just off the left side of the stage, a perfect view of the band and the screens…. Glad we werent on the floor, getting crushed to see Maynards back all night wouldn’t have been worth it! hehe! But yeah, Maynard’s still got it, voice-wise… no doubt. Got out of our boxed-in parking space much faster than expected, and we were home by 12:30…. beddy bye time coming real quick, and then work tomorrow…. 4 more days!! 🙂

jake’s grounded, and has the night of his life

Sunday, August 25th, 2002

So yes, Jake had his first concert ever last night, as I dragged him to see the Tea Party at Water Street. We got to the venue about 6:15, naturally, the tickets said doors at 7, so we didnt get in till 7:30… Got a barrier spot, down from Janet, Rick and Joe… the review will be up later, but pertinent to the blog… halfway through Halycon Days, JB breaks a stick, tosses it, and it goes nowhere. Well, the other one wasn’t far behind, and since he was perfectly front and center, Jake caught it! Beginners luck!! First show ever, and he gets a cushy barrier spot, doesn’t get touched, and catches a drumstick!! So after the show, I called up Karl and Kelley, who were hanging out with Sheldon and Matt at Empire… so Jake’s getting another first, a bar! Hehe… we sat around the pool table, I got Jake a beer (yeahyeahyeah, a ROOT BEER!) and then I get informed that there’s more friends in attendance: Karl’s friends Erin and Bethy, and their friends Ally and Jim, and the *other* Kevin, Kevin Rewkowski… (who *gasp* is old enough to be in Empire, legally! As opposed to Jake hehehe)… So we depart Empire for the other fabled hangout, Jay’s diner! We lost Bethy in the process, but the remaining 10 of us managed to create the usual ruckus, and somehow the waitress that put up with us got a $10 tip! (It’s ok, she deserved it, after dealing with us!) Me and Jake didnt get home till 3, the headlights stayed on the whole time, and I think he had a pretty good time hanging out with the *college crowd* heheheh!
Random: I just did a count of the bands I’ve seen the most times, and it sickens me that Velour/The Turnstones ended up ahead of Staind and Cold… blech.
Our Lady Peace – 13
The Tea Party – 12
Econoline Crush – 10
Velour / The Turnstones – 10 (so yeah, Karl, you were almost right!)
Staind – 9
Cold – 9
And everyone else isnt even close… 🙂
Current mood: Just kinda digesting breakfast…
song: Tragically Hip – Ultra Mundane

mr. jake goes to rochester

Saturday, August 24th, 2002

Got some crap together and ran up to Rochester to throw some of the stuff in the apartment… Amanda was moving in today also, and Grandman went with them, I brought Jake with me…. I was thinking about taking Dad’s truck, but the rain kinda put the damper on that…. YES THE CAR MADE IT… SHUTUP!!! 🙂
Went to Wendy’s for lunch, then to the Archive, and who appears? None other than Karl and Kelley! So we went to the mall and hung out for a bit, then came back and unpacked…
Currently got fraggernarkle back up and kicking in the living room here in the apartment… I actually did buy tickets to the Tea Party show tonight at water street (got the last two at Record Archive!), and Jakes gonna get his first taste of concerts! About 20 mins till we depart, he’s getting the whole concert experence of waiting outside, waiting inside, etc…. haha hope he likes standing around all night… eheh!

keeping the serious drunkards happy

Friday, August 23rd, 2002

seen on slashdot:
it’s not that. My roommate and I have a large MP3 collection that we use during parties. We have one of the widest and well-liked collections (so we hear).
We collect a range of music (whether or not we feel it sucks, there’s always the “next” button) so that just about anyone that comes over can hear something that they appreciate. It keeps the serious drunkards happy.

Its all about keeping the drunkards happy 🙂 hehehe. This sounds like 156, only we dont have that wide of a collection, its all stuff *we* like hahaha….

slow chemical

Friday, August 23rd, 2002

The wonder of the world is gone,
I know for sure.
All the wonder that I want I’ve found in her.
As the whole becomes a part, I strike to burn.
And no flame returns.
Every intuition fails to find its way,
One more table turned around and back again.
Finding I’m more lost than found,
When she’s not around.
When she’s not around,
I feel it coming down.
Give me what I could never ask for,
Give me the drug you know I’m after,
Connect me and you could be my Chemical.
When everybody’s coming. (The chemical comes slow)
When everybody wants you, (The chemical comes slow)
And everybody wants. (Slow)
And everybody wants you, slow.
Give me what I could never ask for,
Connect me and you could be the chemical, now.
Give me the drug you know I’m after,
Connect me and you could be the chemical.
You could be the chemical.
Just a bit of finger eleven to start the day 🙂

break the cycle of mallratting

Friday, August 16th, 2002

So after I got home from work, and after dinner, I was about to head out and about again when I got IM’ed by Adrienne, so I didn’t have to amend my (lack of) plans, just the initial route, and now I’d have a co-pilot! Ended up going to the Galleria, where I got a clearance Staind hat at FYE for $6! This one is from Break the Cycle, and the one I have currently is from Dysfunction… gotta find one from Tormented! 🙂 So we wandered the mall pretty quickly like always, and then hit Target, where Adrienne got a foam mattress pad thingy. fun? wow! We stopped at Andersons after that and sat outside for awhile, till they closed the place at 10 hehe. Came home, played on the compter for about an hour, watched the news, and went to bed… zzzzz I was dead tired for some reason.
Today at work is shaping up to be rather stress free, so that will be a nice end to the week. 🙂 Most likely Rumors tonight with Amanda and crew, plus Adrienne and maybe Sara, then the CNE tomorrow! Yay canucks! 🙂

washington grand slams our images

Thursday, August 15th, 2002

Wednesday turned out to be a much calmer day 🙂 Work was pretty good, I was keeping busy mostly the whole day, just doing odds and ends, the usual. I came home, ate dinner, and then went out by myself, a couple of CD stores, nothing huge. I picked up the first Reveille CD at Record Theatre on Main street… woohoo 🙂 Came home to find an IM from Adrienne, so I called her up, and Amanda and I went and got her and headed for our favorite place of all time, Denny’s… We actually got there before 10, so we got the big menu, and the 2.99 grand slam! 🙂 hehe! The waitress was all confused about stuff because she said, “I’m usually never in here before 10”, to which we replied “Neither are we!”. We spent the better part of 2 hours in there, just yapping about nothing… hehe.
Work today was a constant busy… 🙂 The morning was dedicated to getting the new images onto the machines in FOIA. Gotta love whoever they got to make these images. These drive images were not made by us, they were shipped to us on CD from Washington, supposedly all configured, and also came with 128MB of memory upgrades for each machine, plus a new PCI SCSI card to replace the old ISA cards for the special scanners they have. They were nice enough to spell out exactly what steps to take to get everything installed. That’s fine, except for the fact that these are Windows 2000 images, and the drivers for the SCSI card are for Win95!! So after fighting with these things to no avail, Rob on a whim tried running the software without installing the drivers. And lo and behold, it worked! Why? Don’t ask me, I just work here. It makes no sense at all, but it works. I don’t ask. 🙂 This afternoon was patching up the rest of that image, and then working on a way to get a different disk image up to the Rainbow bridge over the network. Fun stuff 🙂
As Scott alluded to, Dave Williams, lead singer of Drowning Pool, was found dead on the bands tour bus yesterday. There obviously was something wrong with him, something did indeed give, and his body naturally hit the floor. 🙂 (I could go on, but I’ll spare ya, Scott wants the submissions anyway!) (Check last posts comments for his email)
And now its raining outside. Yay.
Current mood: just vegging 🙂
song: Reveille – Butterfly (no, not Crazy Town!)
