Review:
Evolution while not losing their signature sound. It’s said of a lot of bands and albums, but certainly holds true here. 36CF goes even harder in spots than they ever have before, but the songwriting has equally gotten better. These guys just keep cranking out quality releases.

Review:
Ditching the Tool influence, 10 Years went for more a of a straight ahead rock sound on album two, but didn’t lose their sound. They still don’t sound just like everyone else, but still managed to increase their popularity.

Review:
A good hard-rock band from Tennesee, with a tinge of influence from Tool. A friend had given me the mp3’s for this album when it first came out, and I wasn’t quite in the frame of mind for it. I returned to it a couple of years later after their next album had come out, and was much more receptive the second time around.

Review:
The first album of new STP music in nine years, and it actually lived up to the hype. The music is good, Weiland sounds like he can sing, even though the lyrics are kinda nonsensical. While we’ll never get Core-era STP back, this works well enough. Take a Load Off and Hazy Daze are highlights.

Review:
“Introducing…” on her third album’ Well, sorta. Apparently the first two were what the record company wanted her to sing, and this is more what she wanted. A little more soul, a little less pop than “Mind, Body and Soul”, with cameos from Lauryn Hill and Common.

Review:
Ra is one of those bands that keeps plugging along, even though they never seem to catch a break. And it’s too bad, because the musicianship is head and shoulders above most radio-rock bands. Black Sun continues Ra’s trend of rock that makes you take notice, great melodies, and just a touch of that Eastern twinge to keep it interesting.

#Dead Inside
Review:
Mudvayne has continued their slow descent into mediocrity since releasing LD50. The band on this album sounds nothing like the band on that album, as this is much more generic and watered down. Scream With Me and Beyond The Pale are the only two tracks that leave any impression on me. The packaging that requires a blacklight to read is kind of a cool gimmick though.

#Holding All These Lies
Review:
Korn tried to remember who they were back in 1994, throwing back to the first album with the sound on this album, and even getting Ross Robinson to produce it. They succeeded on that front, as it does sound less polished and more raw, but the songs themselves simply aren’t that great. Jon Davis’ message is kinda wearing thin after 15 years, however, I will say I like this better than most of the last two albums, as there’s far less keyboards and programming to be found here.

Review:
I don’t think if you would have told my 1999 self that Korn would do an unplugged album, and do it successfully, that I’d have believed you. My 2007 self had to believe it though, and this actually turned out pretty cool. Guest spots from Amy Lee and Robert Smith don’t hurt any.
