Review:

Stolen from Amazon.com:
With only two studio releases behind them, it might surprise some to hear that the Killers had enough material to release a b-sides and rarities CD only five years after forming, but this is definitely no all-filler/no-killer collection, instead containing a mittful of legitimately strong and worthwhile songs. There are four never-before-released Killer songs on Sawdust, including “Tranquilize,” featuring rock legend Lou Reed on half of the vocals, a number that is filled with a Queen-affected operatic touch. The previously unreleased “Shadowplay”–a Joy Division cover–unfortunately pales compared to the original, while “Leave Your Bourbon at the Door” is easily the summit of the CD; a longtime live favorite, the song’s despair and urgency is a must-have for any Killer fan. Also noteworthy is an outtake from the Hot Fuss sessions called “Under the Gun,” a driving melody with a memorable chorus that feels like a Killers classic. Lesser-known tracks gathered together on this compilation include “Move Away”–first heard on the Spiderman 3 soundtrack–which is straight-up U2-circa-Vertigo era, but still exciting to listen to. Some previously released b-sides are cover tunes that provide musical whimsy, but not much more: the trad-country “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town,” which was made famous by Kenny Rogers, while the impassioned “Romeo and Juliet” tune–written by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits fame–is nearly mimicked by Flowers, and serves little more purpose than providing homage to a wonderfully written melody and tale.

Review:

Stolen from Amazon.com:
This is the first attempt to consolidate all of Sir Elton’s hit singles, from three labels, in one collection. It once would’ve required at least four CDs to own the best stuff here. Many think the legendary performer was at his best in the early to mid-’70s, and the incredible string of singles that ran from 1970’s “Your Song” through 1977’s “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word” remains mighty impressive. But in retrospect, as they’re presented here, ’80s hits like “I’m Still Standing” and “Sad Songs” add much to an already amazing legacy. Three Disney tunes, the lush “The One,” and two from Songs from the West Coast, which was hailed as a return to those ’70s golden days, represent the later years. Collectively, these tracks reinforce the notion that, despite Michael Jackson’s later proclamations, John was once the closest thing post-’60s music had to a genuine king of pop, respected by hipsters and the mainstream alike.

Review:

As opposed to the rest of the cash-grab repackagings of MJ’s greatest hits, I felt like this one had the most songs that I wanted covering the biggest span, for the best price. As for the songs themselves, it’s Michael Jackson, what could I possibly say that hasn’t already been said’

Review:

The Goo Goo Dolls starting to move away from their punk roots and having a more pop-rock sound. This was the first “major-label” album, and I think Fallin’ Down and We Are The Normal were the radio singles. Of course, growing up in Buffalo, I feel like this album (and band in general) is in that “required owning” category.

Review:

This is the side project of Chester Bennington (from Linkin Park) with help from Amir and Ryan from Orgy and a couple other dudes. It’s not too bad, the music is good, but it’s Chester and his usual scratchy singing, kinda like the last LP album (read, no rapping). Decent enough to pick up used.

Review:

I picked up the first greatest hits collection, and thought that was good. But I found this 3-CD set (minus the slipcover unfortunately) at Record Archive, and had to grab it. As for Queen themselves, as one of the biggest bands in the world, I’d be remiss not to own at least their greatest hits!

Soulfly – 2008 – Conquer

#Unleash
#Paranoia
#Warmageddon
#Enemy Ghost
#Rough
#Fall Of The Sycophants
#Doom
#For Those About To Rot
#Touching The Void
#Soulfly VI

Review:

Soulfly’s been around for six albums now’ After the first two, everyone thought each album would be a re-hash of the nu-metal stuff Max started back on Roots. Not so at all. Each consecutive Soulfly album since has progressed a little, but starting with Prophecy, really manifesting itself on Dark Ages, and continuing here, the THRASH is coming back out. Harkening back to classic Sepultura, Max and guitarist Marc Rizzo are bringing the shred back. A real solid metal album, while still holding on to enough of the tribal stuff to make in unmistakably Soulfly.

#Hunt You Down
#Judgment Day
#Forever And A Day
#I’m Coming Back
#Southern Girls

Review:

For whatever back-assward reason, I’m still a mark for these guys. The albums are largely fun, mindless rock, fun to sing along to and rock out in the car with. This album is head and shoulders above their last, Blood Stained Love Story. It’s the typical Saliva fare, songs that say BOOM! in them with a rock-ballad thrown in here and there.
