Review:

A friend in high school got me interested in Jeff Buckley, actually by accident, as she taped it on the opposite side of whatever tape I was initally interested in (which I can’t remember). Needless to say, this isn’t at all in my usual listening realm, but this folky/jangly singer-songwriter caught my attention. He usually sang in a sort of falsetto voice, and most of the songs are very stripped down, but the song compostion was incredible. A great mellow listen.

Review:

Granted, this album came out in August 2006 (and had leaked before then), but I dragged my feet on actually purchasing it. Then I saw them in February 2007, and still didn’t buy it. Then I found out that they released the special edition, and I found a coupon for $4 off from Best Buy, so that finally motivated me to buy it. Musically, this album is a bit more complete than ‘We Are Not Alone’ was. The hard songs are harder, and the melodic songs are just flat out better. I’m partial to Dance With The Devil, Topless, and Had Enough, personally.

What makes this the collectors edition is not so much the addition of the acoustic version of The Diary of Jane, since that was on the initial pressing of the regular album, but the pack-in DVD of the live show from Bethlehem, PA, shot on February 11, 2007 (the day *after* the show I went to in Buffalo). The DVD was well produced, and has a 5.1 mix. The setlist from my show was better! 🙂
