Review:
After the demise of Limp Bizkit, Wes Borland has done a handful of projects, and this latest one is easily the best one to date. Cruel Melody isn’t anything you would have expected, considering his prior work. Although there’s melody, it’s quite dark, and has a fair bit of programming effects mixed in. Considering Danny Lohner and Josh Eustis helped out, that’s not terribly surprising. Josh Freese did the drumming, so you know that’s going to be up to par. Some have said that a couple tracks sound like NIN, and while that may be true, it’s certainly not a slam. Unfortunately, the studio band is not the touring band, so the all-star lineup most likely won’t ever be realized live, but the record is a testament to the talents of everyone involved, especially Wes.
