Review:
This is the first Nonpoint album following the departure of original guitar Andy Goldman, and the debut of his replacement Zach Broderick, and as one would expect, the sound changed a little bit. How much of that is Zach, and how much of that is Greg Tribbett and Chad Gray of Mudvayne producing the album is probably up for debate. This one seems a little slicker and a touch less “punchy”, if you will, than previous albums. I don’t think that’s necessarily bad though. Broderick brings a different vibe, actual guitar solos in a couple places, and while the album seems to lull in places, there are enough standout moments that make this album pretty good. Shadow, Miracle, What You’ve Got For Me, and Lucky #13 are highlights for me. At the end of the day, it’s Nonpoint, and it rocks.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the unique packaging the CD came in. It’s like a big folded pop-up book-like contraption that unfurls to one big die-cut sheet. Pretty interesting, and I’m glad I usually only take the CD out once to rip it, because it’s a pain to re-fold!
