Review:

Jamey Jasta’s long-time-running side project with Danny Diablo (of Skarhead) finally saw a release in 2006. This is about as hardcore as it gets, and the album even has a couple of guest spots from Ice-T, Al Barr (from Dropkick Murphy’s) and others.

The “official bootleg” of the Buffalo PJ show I attended. You can see my review of the show here, which should pretty much be the review of the CD. Another excellent show for the WNY faithful.

Nonpoint – 2010 – Miracle

By Eric | December 23, 2013 1:00 am

Artist: Nonpoint
Title: Miracle
Label: 954 / Rocket Science
Released: May 4, 2010
Packaging: Cardboard
Pack-in DVD
Release Type: Standard
Autographed

Tracklist:

#Shadow
#Miracle
#Crazy
#Frontlines
#Looking Away
#Electricity
#What You’ve Got For Me
#Throwing Stones
#5 Minutes Alone
#What I’ve Become
#Dangerous Waters
#Lucky #13

Review:

This is the first Nonpoint album following the departure of original guitar Andy Goldman, and the debut of his replacement Zach Broderick, and as one would expect, the sound changed a little bit. How much of that is Zach, and how much of that is Greg Tribbett and Chad Gray of Mudvayne producing the album is probably up for debate. This one seems a little slicker and a touch less “punchy”, if you will, than previous albums. I don’t think that’s necessarily bad though. Broderick brings a different vibe, actual guitar solos in a couple places, and while the album seems to lull in places, there are enough standout moments that make this album pretty good. Shadow, Miracle, What You’ve Got For Me, and Lucky #13 are highlights for me. At the end of the day, it’s Nonpoint, and it rocks.

I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the unique packaging the CD came in. It’s like a big folded pop-up book-like contraption that unfurls to one big die-cut sheet. Pretty interesting, and I’m glad I usually only take the CD out once to rip it, because it’s a pain to re-fold!

Godsmack – 2010 – The Oracle

By Eric | December 23, 2013 1:00 am

Artist: Godsmack
Title: The Oracle
Label: Universal Republic
Released: May 4, 2010
Packaging: Digipack
Pack-in DVD DVD Included
Release Type: Deluxe Edition
Autographed

Tracklist:

#Cryin’ Like A Bitch
#Saints and Sinners
#War And Peace
#Love-Hate-Sex-Pain
#What If’
#Devils Swing
#Good Day To Die
#Forever Shamed
#Shadow Of A Soul
#The Oracle

Review:

Godsmack’s fifth album is a return of sorts to the “old” Godsmack, inasmuch as these tunes just flat-out rock, without a lot of deviation into different styles. (There’s nothing even remotely like “Shine Down” on this one.) If you like them, you’ll love this. If you don’t, there isn’t much here that’s going to sway you (Funny, I said the same thing about IV!). It’s solid, it brings the goods, and should make the fans happy.

#Prince
#Rocket Skates
#Sextape
#Risk
#976-Evil
#This Place Is Death

Review:

This album leaked about a month or so before it was actually released, and spread like wildfire all over the internet due to the excited anticipation for it. Judging from everyone else’s reactions, no one was disappointed. I grabbed the leak as well, and I think this album is fantastic. Easily their best work since White Pony (and I really enjoyed Saturday Night Wrist), this one has a little bit of everything that makes the Deftones the Deftones. Rocking out with songs like CMND/CTRL and Rocket Skates, more atmospheric stuff with You’ve Seen The Butcher and Beauty School, and stuff in-between. Just a great listen all the way through from the first song to the last.

Review:

Tesla did a big double-disc set of covers after the touring cycle for Into The Now. They picked a bunch of late 60’s and early 70’s tunes that they liked, and put the first disc out for purchase, while the second disc was initially only available at Tesla concerts. After the tour was over they released the 2nd disc for general sale as well. The packaging was designed to hold both discs, and the artwork makes the whole thing look like a reel-to-reel tape machine. Pretty nifty!
