Review:

The Hip keep continually churning out quality album after quality album, and WATS is no exception. The epic nine-minute “Depression Suite” is framed on either side by both rockers and more subdued songs, with my favorites being “Coffee Girl”, “Now The Struggle Has A Name”, and “Queen of the Furrows”.

Review:

The latest and greatest from Matthew Good. Aptly titled, Vancouver is a collection that deals mostly with issues in and around Good’s home city. A little less somber than Hospital Music was.

ZZ Top – 1979 – Deguello

By Eric | December 23, 2013 1:00 am

Artist: ZZ Top
Title: Deguello
Label: Warner Bros
Released: Aug 27, 1979
Packaging: Jewel Case
Pack-in DVD
Release Type: Standard
Autographed

Tracklist:

#I Thank You
#She Loves My Automobile
#I’m Bad, I’m Nationwide
#A Fool For Your Stockings
#Manic Mechanic
#Dust My Broom
#Lowdown In The Street
#Hi Fi Mama
#Cheap Sunglasses
#Esther Be The One

Review:

The last piece I needed for my ZZ Top discography, Deguello has some of the most classic ZZ tracks of them all on it, including I Thank You, Cheap Sunglasses, and perhaps the song that sums up ZZ the best, I’m Bad I’m Nationwide. It’s also the last album of what could be termed “old” ZZ Top, much more focused on the blues and boogie end of things, before El Loco bridged the gap and then Eliminator full-on embraced the electronic era.

36 Crazyfists – 2004 – A Snow Capped Romance

#The Heart And The Shape
#Bloodwork
#Kenai
#Skin And Atmosphere
#Song For The Fisherman
#With Nothing Underneath
#Destroy The Map
#Installing The Catheter
#Cure Eclipse
#Waterhaul

Review:

This is the album that started it all for me in terms of 36CF “fan-dom”. One of the guys I worked on the Tioga install with gave me a copy of this (and Bitterness The Star, which chronologcially is first) and I played this album damn near constantly for the rest of the summer. I was really captivated by Brock’s somewhat unorthodox vocals, and the songs were just really well done. A great record from start to finish, with not a filler track to be found. Bloodwork stood out to me (I had no idea they’d made it a single until later), and is still my favorite. Needless to say, this album is also my favorite as a whole.

Every Time I Die – 2004 – Burial Plot Bidding War

Artist: Every Time I Die
Title: Burial Plot Bidding War
Label: Undecided
Released: Jun 29, 2004
Packaging: Jewel Case
Pack-in DVD
Release Type: Re-release
Autographed

Tracklist:

#The Emperor’s New Clothes
#Your Touch Versus Death
#Prom Song
#Home Is Where You Hang Yourself
#Morphine Season

Review:

The first EP from the NT Metal dudes. This is actually the 2004 re-release, which has different artwork, but the music is identical. Always fun to go back and hear some of the earliest stuff from a band, especially considering where they are and what they’ve done up to the present. The fact that Keith used a Cardidid mic for the whole album (which was mentioned in the liner notes and in a couple of the Amazon reviews) with the resulting vocal distortion is a neat touch and makes the songs very distinctive.

#Move On (Bloom Like The Sunlight In My Song) (live at Bonnaroo 2004)
#I Failed To Use It (Skittish Outtake)
#Laundrytown (Skittish Outtake)
#Get Along

Review:

After Soul Coughing came to an end in 2000, Mike Doughty struck out on his own playing shows, and sold copies of Skittish, which he’d recorded in one day in 1996 but never saw the light of day. A purely acoustic record, it’s a great low-key listen. With the touring and one solo album under his belt, Rockity Roll was recorded in 2003, again with the acoustic stuff, but this time backed with some drum machines and the like. It marks the original appearance of 27 Jennifers, and also live favorite Ossining. ATO put both of these albums together in one package at the end of 2004, along with a couple of extra tracks and some live stuff, and here we are. This two disc set for 10 bucks is a hell of a deal for the content!

Chevelle – 2009 – Sci-Fi Crimes

By Eric | December 23, 2013 1:00 am

#Jars
#Fell Into Your Shoes
#Letter From A Thief
#Highland’s Apparition
#Roswell’s Spell
#Interlewd
#A New Momentum
#This Circus

Review:

Chevelle is one of those bands that I like well enough to keep buying the albums, but not so much that it’s like OMGIGOTTAHAVETHISRIGHTNOW, nor do I particularly care about seeing them live. Having said all that, this latest album is much like their prior ones, and that means if you live Chevelle, you’ll like this. If you don’t, there’s nothing here that’s going to change your mind. It’s a solid rock album nonetheless.

Shades Apart – 1999 – Eyewitness

#Sputnik
#Stranger By The Day
#Valentine
#100 Days
#Chasing Daydreams
#Know It All
#Time Machine
#Second Chances
#Starry Night
#Gabrielle
#Speed Of Light

Review:

I had owned the advance version of this forever, dredging it out of the buck bin at the old Fantastic Records. Stranger By The Day, and moreso Valentine were fairly big radio hits back in ’99, and I even got to see these guys in Geneseo once. Very catchy radio-friendly pop-rock. There’s at least two different album covers for this album, the much more common one shows a Dick Tracy looking guy, while the rarer one (that I got) shows a villan with a gun holding a woman hostage.

Lifehouse sticks to their light rock formula for record #4. Tiff likes these guys, so I pick them up when I can find ’em cheap. I managed to find the limited edition with a bonus disc with 5 live tracks.
