Review:

Come What(ever) May is simply a great heavy rock record. Everyone’s heard Through Glass, but songs like 30/30-150, Reborn, Made of Scars, and Hell & Consequences really make this record. For me, the clincher is the last song, Zzyzx Rd., which is a piano ballad, proving (to me, anyway) that Corey Taylor can pretty much do any kind of music he wants successfully.

As far as the special edition goes, in true Roadrunner Records fashion, six months or so after an album comes out, here comes the re-release. I’ve gotten wise to this tactic (see KsE’s End Of Heartache), and I’m just flat-out waiting until the special edition comes out before buying anything. In this case, this one is definitely worth it. Five bonus tracks (that are more than just throwaways, the songs are actually record-worthy!), including an acoustic cover of Chris Issak’s ‘Wicked Game’ (Huh’ But Corey pulls it off!), and a DVD with a full live show from Moscow, plus four studio videos. And just because they like us, a popped-up version of Zzyzx Rd, which adds echoes to the vocals, and chops the last minute of the solo at the end. Unfortunately, they don’t like us that much, because this version sucks. The proper album version is much better, far less produced and glossed over.

In short, if you’re gonna buy this album, spend the little bit extra and get the special edition, it’s worth it for the DVD alone, let alone the bonus tracks.

Review:

Her first “real” album after the collection of covers, and she took it in more of a pop direction. There’s still soul and R&B in there, but I like the style on The Soul Sessions better.

Review:

Dad turned me on to this CD, as he was introduced to it by a co-worker. As it’s all covers, this album is a precursor to her first real album and wasn’t originally planned to be released. I’m glad it was, because this girl can sing. My favorite is the soul-influenced take on the White Stripes’ ‘Fell In Love With A Girl, which she not surprisingly, changes to “Fell In Love With A Boy”.

Tracklist:

#Show Me
#Anything But Jesus

Review:

As with most halfway decent bands, the label drops support as soon as the second album comes out. Such was the case with Stereomud, although admittedly, the first album was better. There’s still some standout songs on here though, and they deserved a better fate.

Tracklist:

#My Own Blood
#Incomplete
#Monster
#13 Years

Review:

An EP to whet the appetite for the full-length release. Much better production values than either of their other two albums, and help from Chimaira’s Mark Hunter on ’13 Years’ make this 5-song EP a worthwhile listen.

Tracklist:

#I Am
#One Time
#Burn
#Control
#All I Need
#Live Again

Review:

A self-made CD from the Niagara Falls metal band that’s been around seemingly forever. This album was made with almost a completely different lineup from the band that exists now, only Joe the guitar player remains in the band from these days. This one is completely generic nu-metal.

Review:

Koichi is back in the fold! Wayne and Co. get back to their roots a bit, and while everyone says this harkens back to Wisconsin Death Trip, I almost liken it more to Machine, with the short, heavy songs, staccato singing/screaming, and the lack of weird movie samples that Death Trip had. Having said all that, it’s easily better than Shadow Zone, and on par with Start A War, although it’s a bit of a different style. One major disappointment’ NO OTSEGO SONG! Wayne, what’s up with that’ Not cool!!

Cut from the same mold as Sevendust (Clint Lowery’s brother Corey plays bass), these guys rock hard with some melody thrown in also. A very good modern rock disc.
