11/29/2011 Five Finger Death Punch, All That Remains, Hatebreed (Niagara Falls, NY @ Rapids Theatre)
By Eric | January 6, 2012 10:12 am
[Rains was on the bill, but we didn’t get there in time.]
Phill and I drove down from Rochester, and got there right before Hatebreed was about to start. Perfect! Met up with Adam, and I was kind of amazed at how the Rapids Theater was packed to the gills, there wasn’t a lot of room to move at all. Popular show or something… Anyway, we got the standard balls-to-the-wall Hatebreed opening set, running through the favorites, a couple old classics, and all with full energy from Jamey and the boys. Always a good time, tons of singalongs, fist pumping, moshing, and everything else you’d expect from a Hatebreed show. They never disappoint!
Hatebreed

This Is Now
Everyone Bleeds Now
In Ashes They Shall Reap
Live for This

Smash Your Enemies
As Diehard as They Come

I Will Be Heard
Everyone Bleeds Now
All That Remains was up next. I really like this band, however I feel like the last couple times I’ve seen them its been more of the lighter songs, and less of the heavy. I’ll still complain any time a band completely disavows their first album, but for this show, Hold On, Forever in your Hands, The Last Time, and Two Weeks? Ugh. You’re with Hatebreed and 5FDP, bring the pain!
All That Remains

This Calling
Forever In Your Hands
Dead Wrong

Two Weeks
And now, it was Death Punch time. The crowd popped huge as they started with Under and Over It, worked in Salvation, and then American Capitalist. And that was it for the new songs. Kind of surprising, I thought they’d play a couple more considering the album had just come out. A decent mix of stuff from the first two though, and the crowd ate it up. But this bring me to my other 5FDP complaint, SET IS TOO SHORT! 13 songs and an encore, for three albums? MORE MUSIC! They have a ton of songs that bring it live, and yet they don’t play them. It’s too bad, because they’re a really tight live band, and fun to watch.

11/20/2011 Kid Rock, Ty Stone (Buffalo, NY @ Town Ballroom)
By Eric | January 6, 2012 9:55 am
Kid Rock did a short tour of clubs (as opposed to the amphitheaters he’s been playing for the last umpteen years) with a bunch of the proceeds going to his CARE foundation, supporting various charities in the various cities the tour hit. Buffalo was one of the cities chosen for the tour, and needless to say, it wasn’t the easiest ticket to get, but get one I did. While I’ve always loosely remained a Kid Rock fan, I hadn’t seen him since before he really blew up, that being Warped Tour 1998 and then at Water Street in March of 1999, right before Bawitdaba was released as a single. Anyway, fandom came full circle seeing him in a little place again! Opener Ty Stone was just a dude and an acoustic guitar, but he sounded pretty good. After much crowd anticipation, Kid Rock and the band came out, and started old-school with Devil Without a Cause. There was a decent mix between old and new songs throughout the set, and it was pretty easy to see that the crowd was singing along with everything. They were into it all night, not surprising considering that only the diehards would go through the trouble to get the tickets. Made for a fun night, and I think Kid Rock himself had a blast on this tour in general, let alone our stop, being able to actually see everyone in the crowd and interact with them. I certainly came away with a newfound appreciation for him and his band after this one.

11/12/2011 Chimaira, Skeletonwitch, Molotov Solution, A Thousand Shades of Cold (Rochester, NY @ Montage Music Hall)
By Eric | January 6, 2012 9:53 am
Back to the Montage for a second night, with a hell of a lot more people in attendance this time around. I got there in time to catch the local openers, one of my favorite Rochester bands, A Thousand Shades of Cold. A solid set of stuff from Darkenthedaylight, and a new song as their closer. I have to admit I only half paid attention to Molotov Solution and Skeletonwitch, as I was talking at the bar with some various people. But I was right back down front and center for Chimaira! This was the 9th time I’d seen them, and would be the last tour with Matt and Rob playing guitar, as both would be leaving the band at the end of the year. As always, a Chimaira show is a fun show, and this was no exception. The new songs sounded great live (lead singer of Molotov Solution came out to do the guest vocals on Born in Blood), the older songs still rip, and honestly, considering they played Power Trip, Pure Hatred, and Resurrection, everything else was gravy.
