Review:
After hearing how good Ascendancy was, I had high hopes for this record. Suffice to say I was let down a bit. Apparently all the low screaming wasnt good for Matt Heafys voice, so most of the screaming from the first two albums is gone. Not that I mind clean singing, but there are definitely times here where I miss it. Most of the songs are well crafted, but at times, instead of sounding like an homage to bands, it sounds like a direct rip-off. Case in point, the whole opening sequence of Unrepentant is a cover of Metallicas Through The Never, and then the intro for The Rising sounds like itd be more at home on a Tesla record. Having said all that, there are songs that I like, including The Rising, and Contempt Breeds Contamination. Some of the lyrics sound like attempts at creating fantasy worlds, ala the British metal bands of the early 80s. All in all, its not a bad record, but Ascendancy was much better.
