This was originally going to be on Thursday the 27th, but due to the amazing amount of snow we received, it was postponed first to Saturday, and then to Sunday. I was already back in Rochester by then, so me and Mary made the drive back with our food donations to the show. I knew this was going to be a benefit show, and the ticketmaster website said that there was not going to be a full set by any of the bands, which I expected, but that was sure what I got and then some, as none of the artists played more than 25 minutes, including the Goo’s! (See the 12/31 rant on the main page for my take on the whole thing) But as far as what I did see, Lance Diamond sure kicked things off on the right foot with his great showmanship, and Them Jazzbeards sounded excellent. Spirit of the West is a Moxy Fruvous type band, and their 3 songs were energetic, and full of fun and enthusiasm. The Juliana Theory are just another emo-type band, I didn’t think they were too much to write home about. The Gospel Choir seemed a little put-off by the fact that no one was getting into their “Praise Jesus” routine, but they did sound good. The band that shall not be named was, well, as they usually are, crappy. Interesting note, the guitar cut out for half of the first song! CO Jones played keyboards in front of his band, doing disco songs, but they were cool. Universal Honey, or rather, the lead singer, came out with a guitar and a friend helping out with singing duties. Then time for the Goos. For all the hype and anticipation, they played 6 songs, rather poorly, and they were too loud, it was distorted. Didn’t sound like Johnny was hitting the high notes on anything. They played Slide, Black Balloon, Naked, Broadway, Burning Up, and encored with a cover of Tom Petty’s American Girl. A rather disappointing show for a good cause. Ah well.
