Review:
Go ahead and laugh. It cost me $3. After the disaster that was Results May Vary, Fred recruited Wes Borland again for another go-around, and this was the result, a 7 song EP released in April of 2005 that was probably better than anything theyd done since Three Dollar Bill. Gone was the retarded hip-hop stuff, and Fred actually learned how to talk about something other than himself. Of course, it still comes across as sounding like a 7th grader trying to be Zack de la Rocha, so you cant have everything, and naturally, despite Wes, it wasnt good enough for anyone to have actually heard any of the songs, let alone know that this even got released. Wes got out while the getting was good (again), and went to work on what became Black Light Burns. Fred keeps claiming that Part II is going to come out, but I have a feeling it’s going to be a Chinese Democracy-type of wait for that.

Review:
After hearing how good Ascendancy was, I had high hopes for this record. Suffice to say I was let down a bit. Apparently all the low screaming wasnt good for Matt Heafys voice, so most of the screaming from the first two albums is gone. Not that I mind clean singing, but there are definitely times here where I miss it. Most of the songs are well crafted, but at times, instead of sounding like an homage to bands, it sounds like a direct rip-off. Case in point, the whole opening sequence of Unrepentant is a cover of Metallicas Through The Never, and then the intro for The Rising sounds like itd be more at home on a Tesla record. Having said all that, there are songs that I like, including The Rising, and Contempt Breeds Contamination. Some of the lyrics sound like attempts at creating fantasy worlds, ala the British metal bands of the early 80s. All in all, its not a bad record, but Ascendancy was much better.

Review:
I only ever watch American Idol during the first couple weeks, when theyre weeding out all the idiots, so I only ever saw Chris Daughtry on the show one week. I kept hearing about him, however, and especially when it came out that Fuel asked him to be their new lead singer. Unfortunately for Fuel, and fortunately for Chris, he declined in order to make his own album. As everyone knows, Chris didnt win on Idol, but he certainly did with this CD, as its sold like gangbusters. And why not, its a regular rock record in the vein of 3 Doors Down or a Nickelback, but somehow comes off just a bit less contrived than those two. Its a solid record, and having bought it on its merits as opposed to just because he was on Idol, I have no qualms saying its a fun listen when Im in the mood for something not-so-heavy.

Review:
Uh, why did I buy this again’ Obviously, with Head off finding religion, this isnt the same Korn I knew and loved. Then again, even with Head, they hadnt been the same band since Issues, at least. On this album, they almost go industrial, and while its okay, its still not vintage Korn, and I still dont think its all that great. The radio singles (Twisted Transistor and Coming Undone) to me are the best songs on here, and the rest just are meh. I guess I keep getting these CDs, albeit used, out of some bizarre loyalty to a band that I was very interested for a number of years, but has continued to disappoint me as of late.

Review:
Another Chevelle album nothing to see here. move along. Seriously. If youve heard Wonder Whats Next and This Type Of Thinking youve heard this. Not bad by any means, but nothing that stands out either. It’s better than This Type Of Thinking…

Review:
After Shaun Morgan abruptly ended the touring for Karma and Effect to go into rehab, Seether kind of hung low for the next year and a half, releasing One Cold Night, but otherwise keeping a low profile. They returned in late 2007 with this album, which to my ears sounds better than Karma did. The songs are more interesting, and the two songs that lead off the album, Like Suicide (no relation to the Soundgarden song of the same name) and Fake It are strong and quite catchy. The rest of the album holds up, and aside from the Sympathetic-esque Rise Above This, rocks fairy hard. The South African boys are back!

Review:
This is a radical departure from the Stemm I had seen back in 2000. These guys are good! It’s definately metalcore, and they do a good job of it, with some really catchy riffs and the twin vocal attack of Joe Cafarella and TJ Frost. 13 Years features Mark Hunter from Chimaira, and the single that got some national exposure was Monster. Hopefully these guys really crack the national scene and give Buffalo another band to be proud of.
