the last song

The Last Song
The light that’s in your eyes,
like everyone wants it to be
Well can’t you see that it must be this way
Who knows who’s wrong or right,
just as long as your here tonight
Just like my mother,
always taking my likings away
When nobody’s watching us
I missed the last song
I blame myself for just standing there too long
I missed the last song
I blame myself for just standing there
I miss the love, I miss the holidays
I miss my best friend, cheap cigars,
stupid kids and movie stars
and just like my father,
always taking my likings away
when nobody’s watching us
I missed the last song
I blame myself for just standing there too long
I missed the last song
I blame myself for just standing there too long
Why does it feel like this world is just not for us
Why does it feel like this world’s all they’ve got for us
Why does it feel like nobody’s watching us
I miss her sweet smell.
I miss it every day
I miss my best friend, cheap cigars,
stupid kids and movie stars
and I missed the last song and I miss you
and this time this one’s for us
– Theory of a Deadman

path of least resistance to soulfly
By Eric | September 25, 2002 8:13 pm
Test? hah. If you wanna call it that. 🙂 Got back in about 45 minutes, watched TV, I got my Virgos CD’s in the mail today! yay! Both the Collapse EP and the full CD “The Path of Least Resistance”… I havent gotten through the whole thing yet, but so far its really good 🙂 Dan came over for a little bit and chilled with us also, and I just got off the phone with Dad… they bought a burner and in the process of making some audio Cd’s, Dad was getting a few more coasters than he thought he should be, so we discussed that… now it’s time to start some HW…
…but lest I forget, SOULFLY – WATER STREET – OCTOBER 10 – $20…. I’ve already got my ticket!!! Downthesun and Northside Kings are opening…
current mood: doing just fine
song: Virgos – Good Times
shirt: Tea Party / Transmission Tour

a slave to the tracklisting
By Eric | September 24, 2002 12:33 am
Jason posted this as a comment to the previous post, but I’ll give him (and it) top billing here instead… as reported by Epic Records themselves, new Audioslave news is as follows:
AUDIOSLAVE FANS —
The announcement you’ve been waiting for:
AUDIOSLAVE is band
featuring TIM COMMERFORD, CHRIS CORNELL, TOM MORELLO & BRAD WILK.
The band will release AUDIOSLAVE on NOVEMBER 19 containing
14 tracks — including the first single “Cochise.” THE FULL AUDIOSLAVE TRACKLISTING IS AS FOLLOWS:
1 Cochise
2 Show Me How To Live
3 Gasoline
4 What You Are
5 Like A Stone
6 Set It Off
7 Shadow Of The Sun
8 I Am The Highway
9 Exploder
10 Hypnotize
11 Bring Em Back Alive
12 Light My Way
13 Getaway Car
14 The Last Remaining Light
The way I figured it, of the 13 demo tracks that are floating around, some of the names arent changed, some can be inferred from the lyrics, and about 4 or 5 I have no idea on whatsoever…. and we’re getting a completely new song as well!! The way I see it, November 19th can’t come fast enough!

lookin badass in the escort
By Eric | September 23, 2002 1:44 pm
Eric: “That’s why at that point I have my windows down, blaring Pantera or Deftones or something, and yell out the window “$@#% YOU!”… so I look all badass….”
Joe: “Dude, how can you look badass in an Escort hatchback with a thousand stickers on it??”

bullit

“Like Steve McQueen
All I need’s a fast machine
I¹m gonna make it all right
Like Steve McQueen
Underneath your radar screen
You¹ll never catch me tonight…”
Just saw the Sheryl Crow video for “Steve McQueen”… what a cool video! Short of re-creating the entire “Bullit” chase scene, and then a motorcycle chase and a couple 70’s race cars…. plus Sheryl Crow is hot… hehe. But still, the car chase through SanFran was awesome…. oh yeah, the song is pretty decent too! hehe.
Damn, Bullit was a cool movie…. Thanks Dad for forcing me to sit down and watch it 🙂

a real canadian
By Eric | September 23, 2002 12:03 am
I headed out with Kelley for a little bit, I finally got to the new Tim Horton’s on Jefferson, and after being helped by a dumbass kid, Kelley got a real live Canadian cashier! hehe. When you buy a franchise, you get real authentic employees too! 🙂 hahaha. We then traveled to Genny Park, hung out a little bit, and I was able to retrieve my car. 🙂 Sat down and watched the Bills lose, made a Target run, and then me and Adam hit the Bug Jar for some underground metal… Jucifer… well, interesting, just a girl with a guitar and a drummer, and High on Fire was a 3 piece… pretty cool stuff. The review will be forthcoming 🙂 The Bug Jar is a hella small place though, its like watching a band play in your apartment, the place is really that tiny. (Makes Evening Star look huge!)
Not a whole lot else going on, it was a pretty low key day round these parts…. I’ll be giving Karl a lift to the Collision shop tomorrow morning…

09/22/2002 High On Fire, Jucifer (Rochester, NY @ Bug Jar)
By Eric | September 22, 2002 11:59 pm
Adam wanted somebody to go with to this one, so I figured, a small-time metal show? I haven’t really been to one before, why not? We got there as Jucifer was finishing up. Quite interesting, just two people, a girl on the guitar and a guy on the drums. She had her guitar tuned down pretty low, so the sound was bassy and dirty, and the drummer looked like Tommy Lee, and attacked the kit with about the same ferocity. Not to say that musically it was all that redeeming. The 10 minutes we saw of them was plenty enough. High on Fire, on the other hand, was a three-piece that played straightforward metal. The vocals were kinda growling, and the guitar work was a lot of chords and a little soloing here and there, but it was much easier to follow and get into. I don’t think I’ll be buying their CD, but it was an entertaining show nonetheless. A quick word about the Bug Jar too, since it was my first time there. This place is like seeing a band in your apartment, or rather, in a walk-in closet. Its that small. If anyone that you really loves comes to that place, you’ll be in heaven, and right on top of the band 🙂

RIT moves to Geneseo, a *hit* of a party
By Eric | September 22, 2002 12:32 pm
Weekend Recap time! Friday night we indeed headed down to Geneseo, started out at Amy and Betsy’s house, where we were joined by two of Betsy’s RIT friends, so the 6 of us headed over to the townhouses to supposedly pick someone up, but that didnt happen. We got a tour of the townhouses instead (I’d been in Sara’s, so nothing new here hehe). Walked over to the Vital, and Dear God was there a lot of guys there… every guy at RIT must have had the same idea we did, cuz there were tons of them there. On to the Idle, where it was more of the same. We watched Betsy’s friends play pool, and then broke out of that place too at 2am. Next stop… Mama Mia’s! Ate, walked back to the house, and watched some TV… Planes, Trains and Automobiles! Thus capped off our night at Geneseo.
Saturday morning I was up at 11 (yeah, slept in, amazing!), and after getting some computer stuff together for Kelley to overhaul Karl’s computer, I hit the road for home. Rolled into NT about 2 o’clock, and chilled with the parents for a couple hours, then it was off to Grandma’s for dinner… Pork Roast! yay! So had a nice time at Grandma’s, talking with everyone there. Left at about 8pm to come back to RIT, and find out what was going on… or rather, become a part of what I knew was going on… hehe
Karl’s Car Hit, Friends Throw Party!
I don’t think Karl had any idea what was coming his way when Kelley and Will grabbed him and headed out.. heheh. We decided Karl should have a pity party for his hit and run mishap, and what better place than the scene of the crime, right? hehe. Between Dan and Kelley, they rounded up the Knarr’s, Erin, Ally and Bethy, and then his EE crew, and the 156 regular cast… and Tashi came out! It turned out to be quite the fun night! Dan concocted what he called “Genesee River Water”, which was vodka, fruit, and whatever else he saw fit to put in there hehe. Karl’s senior design buddy Scott did a shot of Everclear…. “Whoaaa……..” heheh. As the night grew longer, it became a singalong… Pearl Jam, GNR, STP… yeah, and just for the record, *I* did not start it this time!! Scott did (*pointing the finger of blame at him!*), and then we had the entire place trying to be Chris Cornell on Hunger Strike… how many dying cats are there in that house? hehe. Kevin was the only one that hit it…. hehe. We broke it up about 1:30, and I gotta thank Kelley for giving me a ride home… as the away message said… I was sleeping safe and sound at 156, and my car was doing the same over at Genny Park 🙂
Football today! I hate NFL TV rules, could I watch the Jets and Dolphins at 1? Nooooooooo… Dallas and Philly… who the hell cares. Blah. Bills – Broncos at 4, should be a good game. And then I think I’m heading with Adam to the Bug Jar tonight for a metal show… High On Fire and Jucifer are the names of the bands… I’m trusting Adam on this one hehehe 🙂

cds, liquor, more geneseo
By Eric | September 20, 2002 6:20 pm
Well, after work we had quite the interesting time, me and Joe headed out for some DiBella’s, then I showed him the magic that is Record Archive… both locations!! His eyes kinda lit up when I cased the place, knowing exactly where to look and just grabbing CD’s like I’m picking blindly hehe… Scored rather well today, finally got RATM’s Renegades, and 3 Pantera discs I didn’t have (Trendkill, Reinventing the Steel, and Official Live). Then on the way out of the one on East, there were about 7 or 8 CD’s sitting on the top of the trash can, outside the store. Being the nosey thrifty leech that I am, had to check them out, and lo and behold, there were actually CD’s in the cases! There were some really shitty CD’s in there, but I grabbed 3, two of the Mortal Kombat soundtracks (mostly industrial/techno stuff), and the NOFX’s Punk in Drublic, which I’m just gonna give away. I don’t like punk, but I hate to see a CD go to waste, and I’ll make sure it finds a good home 🙂
After the Archives, me and Joe did a liquor run for his friend John. And yeah, 8 bottles later, I think the people at the counter either though we were lushes, or having a huge party. But not a drop of it was for us! We did get a little sampler bottle of Fris Vodka out of the deal though… and it was rather smooth, I must admit…. and I dont really like vodka much at all. Sold us!
So I’ve been sitting here checking out all the CD’s I just bought, shooting the shit with Adam and Karl, and just chilling out. The weekend is about to start hehe. Looks like Adam and I are heading down to Geneseo again tonight, at the behest of Amy and Betsy… sounds like it’ll be a ruckus! Before that though, looks like RIT is attempting to have a fall-fest, so I might check a little of that out… not too sure quite yet…

09/13/2002 Medeski, Martin and Wood (Rochester, NY @ RIT Clark Gym)
By Eric | September 13, 2002 11:59 pm
Karl and I went to this one on the reccomendation of our friend George, who is into more bluesy, jazzy, eclectic kind of stuff. Boy was he right about the eclectisim on this one. MMW are a trio that apparently are the new wave of jazz. I can say I tried, and if you’re into it, great, but it’s definately not for me. Between the drummer, the keyboardist, and the guitarist/bassist, there was a lot of solos, dissonant solos at that, and when they all came back in, and started a groove, I could dig it, but the grooves seemed to be few and far between. Some call it experimentation, I’d just call it playing whatever note for the hell of it. We stayed for about an hour, and when they took a little break, we broke… for the doors.
