08/24/2002 The Tea Party, The Turnstones, Junction Five (Rochester, NY @ Water Street Music Hall)
By Eric | August 24, 2002 11:59 pm
This was Jake’s first concert ever!! We weren’t sure we were going to go, but as luck would have it, we got the last two tickets Record Archive had. Got there at 6, doors at 7… haha right. 7:30 and we finally get in, and grab barrier spots. Yeah, Jake’s going to be spoiled for his first one hehe. Junction 5 comes out first, I guess they’re local to Rochester, and they sounded pretty decent! 3 of the 4 guys in the band took turns singing, so that was pretty cool, and the one guy busted out a Recorder (ya know, the 3rd grade you-have-to-play-it musical instrument?) during a song! So they were decent. Next up, Velour… oh, I mean, the Turnstones… um yeah. You suck. The Tea came out promptly at 10, and instead of starting with Interzone (like the past few shows), Jeff ripped into The River! After that however, the setlist remained largely unchanged from the other shows, Interzone didnt get played at all, and instead of Cathartik, we got The Baazar. They did sound excellent as usual though, and Jake seemed pretty much captivated the whole time. Even more so due to the fact that during The Halcyon Days, as beginners luck would have it, he caught a drumstick! Some kids… 🙂 The crowd was very respectful again, we were right up front and hardly got touched, another case of everyone that was there wanted to be there. So while the set was the same as usual, it was still a great show, and I’m glad Jake got to have an excellent first concert experience, so he won’t be soured on the whole thing!

mr. jake goes to rochester
By Eric | August 24, 2002 5:54 pm
Got some crap together and ran up to Rochester to throw some of the stuff in the apartment… Amanda was moving in today also, and Grandman went with them, I brought Jake with me…. I was thinking about taking Dad’s truck, but the rain kinda put the damper on that…. YES THE CAR MADE IT… SHUTUP!!! 🙂
Went to Wendy’s for lunch, then to the Archive, and who appears? None other than Karl and Kelley! So we went to the mall and hung out for a bit, then came back and unpacked…
Currently got fraggernarkle back up and kicking in the living room here in the apartment… I actually did buy tickets to the Tea Party show tonight at water street (got the last two at Record Archive!), and Jakes gonna get his first taste of concerts! About 20 mins till we depart, he’s getting the whole concert experence of waiting outside, waiting inside, etc…. haha hope he likes standing around all night… eheh!

keeping the serious drunkards happy
By Eric | August 23, 2002 9:43 am
seen on slashdot:
it’s not that. My roommate and I have a large MP3 collection that we use during parties. We have one of the widest and well-liked collections (so we hear).
We collect a range of music (whether or not we feel it sucks, there’s always the “next” button) so that just about anyone that comes over can hear something that they appreciate. It keeps the serious drunkards happy.
Its all about keeping the drunkards happy 🙂 hehehe. This sounds like 156, only we dont have that wide of a collection, its all stuff *we* like hahaha….

slow chemical
By Eric | August 23, 2002 8:40 am
The wonder of the world is gone,
I know for sure.
All the wonder that I want I’ve found in her.
As the whole becomes a part, I strike to burn.
And no flame returns.
Every intuition fails to find its way,
One more table turned around and back again.
Finding I’m more lost than found,
When she’s not around.
When she’s not around,
I feel it coming down.
Give me what I could never ask for,
Give me the drug you know I’m after,
Connect me and you could be my Chemical.
When everybody’s coming. (The chemical comes slow)
When everybody wants you, (The chemical comes slow)
And everybody wants. (Slow)
And everybody wants you, slow.
Give me what I could never ask for,
Connect me and you could be the chemical, now.
Give me the drug you know I’m after,
Connect me and you could be the chemical.
You could be the chemical.
Just a bit of finger eleven to start the day 🙂

break the cycle of mallratting
By Eric | August 16, 2002 9:11 am
So after I got home from work, and after dinner, I was about to head out and about again when I got IM’ed by Adrienne, so I didn’t have to amend my (lack of) plans, just the initial route, and now I’d have a co-pilot! Ended up going to the Galleria, where I got a clearance Staind hat at FYE for $6! This one is from Break the Cycle, and the one I have currently is from Dysfunction… gotta find one from Tormented! 🙂 So we wandered the mall pretty quickly like always, and then hit Target, where Adrienne got a foam mattress pad thingy. fun? wow! We stopped at Andersons after that and sat outside for awhile, till they closed the place at 10 hehe. Came home, played on the compter for about an hour, watched the news, and went to bed… zzzzz I was dead tired for some reason.
Today at work is shaping up to be rather stress free, so that will be a nice end to the week. 🙂 Most likely Rumors tonight with Amanda and crew, plus Adrienne and maybe Sara, then the CNE tomorrow! Yay canucks! 🙂

washington grand slams our images
By Eric | August 15, 2002 3:42 pm
Wednesday turned out to be a much calmer day 🙂 Work was pretty good, I was keeping busy mostly the whole day, just doing odds and ends, the usual. I came home, ate dinner, and then went out by myself, a couple of CD stores, nothing huge. I picked up the first Reveille CD at Record Theatre on Main street… woohoo 🙂 Came home to find an IM from Adrienne, so I called her up, and Amanda and I went and got her and headed for our favorite place of all time, Denny’s… We actually got there before 10, so we got the big menu, and the 2.99 grand slam! 🙂 hehe! The waitress was all confused about stuff because she said, “I’m usually never in here before 10”, to which we replied “Neither are we!”. We spent the better part of 2 hours in there, just yapping about nothing… hehe.
Work today was a constant busy… 🙂 The morning was dedicated to getting the new images onto the machines in FOIA. Gotta love whoever they got to make these images. These drive images were not made by us, they were shipped to us on CD from Washington, supposedly all configured, and also came with 128MB of memory upgrades for each machine, plus a new PCI SCSI card to replace the old ISA cards for the special scanners they have. They were nice enough to spell out exactly what steps to take to get everything installed. That’s fine, except for the fact that these are Windows 2000 images, and the drivers for the SCSI card are for Win95!! So after fighting with these things to no avail, Rob on a whim tried running the software without installing the drivers. And lo and behold, it worked! Why? Don’t ask me, I just work here. It makes no sense at all, but it works. I don’t ask. 🙂 This afternoon was patching up the rest of that image, and then working on a way to get a different disk image up to the Rainbow bridge over the network. Fun stuff 🙂
As Scott alluded to, Dave Williams, lead singer of Drowning Pool, was found dead on the bands tour bus yesterday. There obviously was something wrong with him, something did indeed give, and his body naturally hit the floor. 🙂 (I could go on, but I’ll spare ya, Scott wants the submissions anyway!) (Check last posts comments for his email)
And now its raining outside. Yay.
Current mood: just vegging 🙂
song: Reveille – Butterfly (no, not Crazy Town!)

olp show adventure
By Eric | August 13, 2002 10:04 am
Well, the show was good, (finally got neon crossing!) the ride back was anything but… when I have more time, I’ll spill the whole story, lets just say Eric doesn’t like to drive with no headlights at 3am…. I did make it home eventually (at 4am!) and took the day off so I could get it fixed (and get some semblence of sleep).
Blah. In the words of Nonpoint… What A Day.

08/12/2002 Our Lady Peace, Audiovent (Rochester, NY @ Water Street Music Hall)
By Eric | August 12, 2002 11:59 pm
Well, OLP show #13, first one since back to back March ’01 shows. Greenwheel was the other opening act at this show, but due to miscommunication between me and Mary, I didnt realize she would not be attending until about 7pm, so I hauled ass into Rochester, picked up Rachel, and got to Water Street by 8:30, to just catch Greenwheel walking off stage. Blah. Headed up to the balcony, and we were about 4 deep up there too, so for a lot of the show, I really didn’t see a whole lot. No matter. In any case, Audiovent was decent, the lead singer and guitar player are the brothers of the singer and guitar players in Incubus, and you could tell. It was a little Brandon Boyd up there, even though the music wasnt exactly the same. I liken them to back when Incubus was harder. (S.C.I.E.N.C.E. anyone?) Anyway, they sounded really good, no bad words here. Then an extended wait for OLP, who didnt come on until about 10:45 I’d say. With both Mike and Jamie not in the band anymore, it was a bit different. Not that they were bad by any means, they sounded awesome, but it just wasn’t quite the same. Maybe I’m dumb and jaded, hehe 🙂 So they opened with All For You, right into Do You Like It, mimicing the beginning of Gravity. From that, the singalong for Superman’s Dead was quite impressive, and then into Naveed, with the new guitar player (Steve Mazur) trying to copy Mike’s old extended intro, and not quite pulling it off. Then in the middle of the song, they stuck a part of Life in there, which was interesting and different. From there, we got Not Enough, Bring Back The Sun, and daring stunts from Raine during One Man Army. He climbed up to the balcony from the bar, did just about the entire song up there, and at the end of the song, dropped, so as to be caught by the crowd! Shades of Eddie Vedder and/or Cregg (BoyHitsCar) at all? 🙂 Whatever was next, followed by Is Anybody Home?, Innocent, Right Behind You, Birdman (the return of Raine doing the strobe light dance!), Clumsy, Are You Sad, and they closed the main set with Starseed. The encore started with Somewhere Out There, and the next song was a joygasm and a half… NEON CROSSING!! I’ve waited 12 shows to hear something oddball off of Naveed, and for *lucky* 13, they finally did one! By this time I was able to worm my way up to the barrier up top of the balcony, so I enjoyed this one with a full view 🙂 The final song of the night was the 4am singalong, also very impressive. The show sounded excellent, they looked good, the setlist was 18 songs long and a good mix, but as a fan since the release of Clumsy, it’s just not the same without Mike and Jamie being there.

housewarming for brooke
By Eric | August 11, 2002 11:21 am
Saturday ended up being kind of an aimless day… Sara thought she was going to get called into work, then they called and said they didnt need her, so she was gonna go in at 5 like she was supposed to, and she’d be the first one to go home, usually like 9ish. Which was actually important for once, because we had Brooke’s housewarming party to go to! (More on that later). So after wasting a bunch of time in the morning after I got up, I picked up Sara, and we hit one lame garage sale in Tonawanda, then the Salvo on Military, and of course Frizb’s 🙂 (Gotta love 4 for $10!) I picked up the last Bush CD I didnt have (Science of things), the 2nd Tonic CD, Local H, and a band called Skunk Anansie, who I heard about because the female lead singer did a track with Sevendust. woohoo! After that we picked up lunch at the Bvld mall, and Sara had to get ready to go to work, so I dropped her back off about 3:30. I proceeded to go out Niagara Falls way, stopped at Media Play, and the Goodwill across the street from the Factory Outlet Mall. Goodwill was kind to me…. Finally got Atari paddles, and two more games! (River Raid and Berzerk!) Then went to the mall itself, and finally got some books at the discount book store. I got the NASA Mission Control book I’ve been lusting after forever, the book of Lincoln’s speeches (Dr F will be thrilled!), and a little surprise for Karl (dunno if he reads this, so I’m not giving it away, you’ll find out monday!). So I came back from there, and vegged out at home for a while. Never really did eat dinner, just lounged. Sara finally got let out of work about 10ish, and me, her and Adrienne finally hit the road to Brooke’s place about 11. Brooke was our high school valedictorian, and is going to UB to get her MBA in Corporate Finance. Her and her boyfriend got an apartment near Gates Circle Hospital in the city, and had a party to “open it up”. We turned out to be the only people from high school there, but being the socal butterflies that we are, that didn’t matter, and of course, we ended up knowing mutual people… one of Brooke’s friends, Roy, lives down in Nassau county and knows (or at least knows of) Dan! So the night was fun, catching up with Brooke and meeting her friends and all that. We didn’t leave till about 2:30, and Sara needed to get a card (and food, of course!), so before we went home, we stopped at Wegmans… mmmm… iced animal cookies.. aaaarrrrrrghghghgghhghg 🙂 So finally got to bed about 4, and up at 11… not too shabby 🙂
current mood: still waking up
