05/31/2001 U2, PJ Harvey (Buffalo, NY @ HSBC Arena)

By Eric | May 31, 2001 11:59 pm

Amanda’s first real show! There was a heart-shaped walkway that jutted out from the stage, and we were about 4 people deep from the barrier at the point of the heart. PJ Harvey played a lackluster 45 minute set, I thought she was rather boring, a lot of others seemed to as well. Then U2 came out and kicked right into Elevation… these guys live up to all the hype and then some! Bono is totally dynamic up on stage, a lot of crowd interaction, and the rest of the band sounded tight as hell. Playing a good mix of stuff off of All That You Can’t… and the older songs, they made good use of the walkway, playing out by us most of the night! The only crowdsurfer of the night was brought up on the walkway by Bono, who let him dance for awhile and then jumped back into the crowd. A girl was brought up on stage for a hug, and a second girl later in the set was actually humped by Bono! The entire band came down and played Desire right in front of us! Bono talked about how the 3rd show they ever played in the US was in Buffalo, and it was also the night John Lennon was shot. They also did a little tribute to Joey Ramone. Two encores later, they closed with All That You Can’t Leave Behind. U2 played for a solid two hours and then some, and totally made my $45 ticket completely worth it.
Setlist: Elevation, Beautiful Day, Until the End of the World, Even Better Than the Real Thing, Mysterious Ways, In My Life/Stuck In a Moment, Kite, Gone, New York, I Will Follow, Sunday Bloody Sunday/Get Up Stand Up, In A Little While, Desire, Stay, Bad/40, Where the Streets Have No Name, Pride. Encore(s): Bullet the Blue Sky, With or Without You, The Fly, One/She’s a Mystery to Me, Walk On.

Bad

By Eric | May 19, 2001 1:18 pm

The Stevie Ray Vaughan collection is coming along nicely… Record Archive was a goldmine today, as I found no less than 5 SRV cds! (Well, 4 if you don’t want to count Family Style). Plus Clapton Unplugged!

Fridays was pretty cool last night, Karls friends from high school came up and we had a blast. Actually got to Rafal’s place [http://come.to/461] too!

Trevor Hurst’s Post to the Econoline Crush sister site, brandnewhistory.com [www.brandnewhistory.com] about the EC/3DD show at Niagara University on May 6th….

Niagara, New York

Sadly this was our last day on the 3 Doors Down tour. We had such a great time playing with these guys that we were dreading this day. This is the first band in all our years of playing that gave us a thank you card. Just a great bunch of guys and a wonderful organization to work with.

We just wanted to mention some people that helped make the Niagara show fun. Ted for keeping the thing rolling. Marybeth for all her hard work. Ziggy wanted to thank Nicole. Dan wanted to thank Joe and Eric and all their friends.

The crew guys for 3dd were great too! Special thanks to Gary and Lulu.

The show was outside and it was very cold but the audience hung in there. A lot of people from this show followed us to Buffalo. The fan base is getting bigger day by day.

Dan thanked us! YAY!

new tool, RIT + DVD = splat

By Eric | May 12, 2001 4:40 pm

Gotta love the Record Archive! Tool’s new disc doesnt come out until Tuesday, but they had it for sale today… also got a postcard and a Tool window cling! They also hooked me up with a Staind poster for Break The Cycle… yay! Oh yeah, finally got Jerry Cantrell’s solo disc too… its about time!

RIT’s Spring Festival is in full swing, and its a good thing we went last night… rain and outdoor activities dont usually mix too well. Thursday night they showed Spaceballs out on the Greek Lawn, which was cool…. until the DVD player messed up halfway through the movie…. DOH! How many RIT students does it take to play a DVD?

05/08/2001 Econoline Crush, Velour, Agent Me (Buffalo, NY @ Showplace Theater)

By Eric | May 8, 2001 11:59 pm

3rd day in a row for the EC boys! Agent Me was boring, Velour…. uuhhh, yeah. EC came out to a crowd that couldn’t have topped 150, a very dissappointing turnout. Everyone that was there knew what they came for though, and they guys didnt let us down. Adding Down By The Riverside and Flamethrower into the set, they ripped through about 15 songs, also including TDM, Home, and Razorblades and Bandaides!!! Trevor kept having trouble with his ear monitor, and during the encore looked visibly upset with the sound guy. But everyone in the band was very gracious after the show as far as signing autographs and such. The show sounded great, and the lack of people didnt hurt our enthusiasm or the band’s!
Pics thanks to Sara.

05/07/2001 Econoline Crush Edge Sessions (Buffalo, NY @ Backstage Pub)

By Eric | May 7, 2001 11:59 pm

Mary won tickets off the Edge through Joe to attend this, and then was unable to go. So I went and took Adrienne, while Sara had also won and brought David. Edge Sessions is a small intimate setting where the band plays acoustically and answers questions from the audience. We got there around 7pm, and Superpimp was on stage first. They got finished, and EC hit the stage at 8. They played 4 songs, My Salvation, All That You Are, May I Go, and You Dont Know What Its Like. The questions asked were kinda lame, but it was still cool. The band did a meet and greet after the set, and hung out and talked for a little bit. Very Cool!

05/06/2001 3 Doors Down, Econoline Crush (Niagara Falls, NY @ Niagara University)

By Eric | May 6, 2001 11:59 pm

This was a really confusing setup, as we had been told it was free for everyone, yet NU’s webpage said it was only for NU students. So we tried anyway and walked right in! The fact that it was outside helped too. There couldn’t have been 10 people at the whole place that knew who EC was. We were all at the barrier singing along with every song, and me and Joe got in the “Oh Yeah’s” during You Dont Know What Its Like, Trevor pointed at us and gave us the thumbs up! They also played Head Like a Hole as an insert to Wicked. We ran over to the side after the set and met everyone in the band, We ended up talking to Dan, EC’s bass player, for quite awhile. Caught the tail end of 3DD’s set, I guess this was the last show of the tour, and NU’s crowd was really lame for them, and EC as well. Nevertheless, Trevor updated his tour diary on brandnewhistory.com. and thanked us!
