18 years ago today – what a great bill! @drowningpoolofficial with @boyhitscarofficial and @finger_eleven at the #showplacetheatre in #Buffalo. We had no idea who Drowning Pool were, but Dave Williams didn't take long in showing us, his energy was of course incredible. I think they'd released Bodies to radio and the album wasn't even out yet! Then BHC came on and we said "what the hell is this?" and instantly fell in love with them too. @cregg_rondell took his stage dive and miraculously was caught. And then Finger Eleven was solidly in the middle of the tour for Greyest of Blue Skies and had a great show. Presumably they liked the crowd and venue as they came back two years later to shoot the live DVD that was packed in with the self-titled album! #fingereleven #boyhitscar #drowningpool #greyestofblueskies #ticketstubs #concertstories #2001 #RIPDaveWilliams

This is one of the few shows where both the openers were impressive. Drowning Pool started the show, and these guys rock. The singer was wandering all over the place, and it was their first show on this tour, so they looked extremely excited to be there, and it came out during their set. Lots of energy. During one song the singer proceeded to bang a shovel on the stage (we dont like snow either, but really, its okay!). Then Boy Hits Car came out, and these guys are a weird mix of Caroline’s Spine, Disturbed and the Tea Party (yes, these three bands!). But they made it work! The singer was a Zack de la Rocha look-alike, but didnt sound like him at all. The rest of the band sounded pretty cool too, almost very song had an acoustic guitar and then would kick in to some real heavy stuff. During the last song the lead singer did a stage dive! Then after another intermission, Finger Eleven. Much better than the Kitchener show to me, they played a healthy mix of both albums, doing a really cool improv on Tip, and getting the entire crowd involved during Suffocate. Closed with Above, then did Stay and Drown and Drag You Down for the encore. The crowd actually wasnt too bad either, which made it that much more enjoyable.

new staind!

By Eric | April 30, 2001 12:06 am

Yeah, its all butter baby… Half the spindle is gone due to various burns for various people. I’m feeling generous…. 🙂 Not so with the next one… 🙂 Me and Matt returned 8 12-packs back to Wegmans for deposit. 5 bucks worth! (We’re not drunks, really!)

I dont care what anyone says, you can too wear the shirt of the band you’re going to see at the concert. Don’t let them tell you otherwise.

The new Staind album is good. Very Good. I encourage everyone to check it out when it comes out May 22nd, or find it now if you’re so inclined.

burn baby burn

By Eric | April 29, 2001 11:02 am

Alrighty, about 15 burns later, only 2 coasters, I’m pretty happy with this thing…. 🙂 Finally got Win2000 back up and installed correctly on this beast. So the lesson to be learned? DON’T INSTALL THE SOFTWARE THAT COMES WITH THE BURNER!!

In other news, the mall has proven fruitful for sales this weekend. Picked up a STP shirt for 5 bucks, and then a Godsmack long sleeve for 5 at hot topic! The CD hunting was pretty good too, finally got P Roach, Saliva was only 4 bucks, and two Stevie Ray CDs…. gotta start that collection somehow!

Got to see Sara again which was cool… saved her from the misery that is Geneseo…. 🙂

Acoustic No One

By Eric | April 23, 2001 10:11 pm

Whew! Almost lost the counter… but it’s all good. I won a bid for a Cold “No One” promo on ebay. I was expecting one of the picture tray versions, but I got a plain vanilla promo for the acoustic version. But this is not the version on Project 13!!! SCORE! Works for me!

die crowdsurfers

By Eric | April 21, 2001 1:23 pm

Last night we went to see my Constitutional Law Professor’s blues band at Beale Street. Dr. Fornieri and the Dynamics rocked the house!

Also, Sara has come up with a crowd-surfer protest page of sorts…. go check it out here [www.platinumcomplication.com/crowdsurfers] and add your two cents…

I’m really gonna fix this page when I get the chance and make it look right… sometime 🙂

04/15/2001 Godsmack, Staind, Cold, Systematic (Rochester, NY at Blue Cross Arena)

By Eric | April 15, 2001 11:59 pm

This was the last show of this tour. We got there way too early, hung out by the buses, and met Mike and Johnny from Staind first. Mike looked like he was in a hurry, so we really didnt get to talk to him much. Johnny was really great and chatted for a little bit, we got autographs and pics with him. He was telling us how he was on his was to take pictures of the Genesee River, and how he’s dabbling in amateur photography.

Then we met everyone from Cold again, still amazingly nice guys! We jumped in line and began the big wait. Systematic sounded much better this time around, I was much more impressed this time than in Utica. Cold came out and played an awesome set, opened with Give again, Scooter was running all over the place this time! Aaron came out and did his screaming bit on Send In The Clowns, and promptly walked right off stage again… it was kinda funny! Cold finished up their set with Just Got Wicked, Scooter let the crowd scream at various intervals. Then it was time for Staind. They opened with Mudshovel once again, and the crowd got really rough about this time. Halfway through the set we got pulled out of the pit and hit the seats. We found Karl and Dave just as Suffocate ended, and had a great view for Outside. This version was every bit as good as Utica’s, and the whole place singing was just incredible. Next was Its Been Awhile, which now that everyone knows it, was just as moving as Outside was. Aaron then proceeded to mention that Break The Cycle would be out May 22, and said that “…these last two songs we’re gonna play, are NOT on that record!” as they ripped into Raw. The closed with Spleen, at which point these guys dressed up in rediculous costumes came out armed with silly string and ambushed Staind on stage! Right after the song was done, Aaron got a hold of one of them, ripped off the mask, and revealed Sully from Godsmack! (And they woulda got away with it if it werent for those snooping kids!). Godsmack came out and opened with Sick of Life, and ran through stuff from both albums. Sully claimed responsibility for the Staind ambush, and told everyone in the seats that they were lazy for not being on the floor. He whipped pretty much the entire floor into a frenzy during Time Bomb, and I’m certainly glad I wasnt down there for it! They closed the main set with Keep Away, then started the encore with Voodoo. Some random guy made it up on stage to sing with Sully, leading him to exclaim “I have no f*cking idea who this guy is, but he’s pretty cool!” as the guy got led away by security. They closed with Whatever, the entire floor was a pit once again. In all, it was pretty awesome show, better in some respects than Utica, worse in others, mainly due to the fact that there was way more people at this show than at Utica. But still a great concert!

03/30/2001 Econoline Crush (Toronto, ONT at The Steam Whistle Brewing House)

By Eric | March 30, 2001 11:59 pm

This was a live webcast (available at http://www.virtucast.com), and you could only win passes, you couldnt buy them. Since Mary is on the EC street team, she replied to an email asking for passes, and received 4! So we took Sara and Joe with us. We got right to the barrier, and patiently waited for the show to start… They ripped right into Surefire, with Trevor and crew looking and sounding as good as ever! As this was to promote Brand New History, half the set was all new material, which sounded great. They continued with Sinking, Trash, My Salvation, then got the crowd really back into it with Home. Arguably the oddest EC song, May I Go, was next, then the crowd pleaser You Dont Know What Its Like. They finished up with All That You Are, Sparkle and Shine, Make It Right, and then closed with Wicked. Tons of energy, they sounded great, Trevor was in fine liquid sex form, and we got autographs from Dan and Johnny afterwards… I snagged Trevor’s setlist! Definately worth the drive… the crowd was a lot of old people, and we hardly got touched all night. Wonderful!

03/24/2001 Our Lady Peace, American Hi-Fi (Rochester, NY at The Water Street Music Hall)

By Eric | March 24, 2001 11:59 pm

Another OLP show, another barrier spot… UPSTAIRS in the balcony this time! It was great to see everyone getting crushed downstairs and not actually being in it for once, and the view was incredible. We had a whole RIT crew going, plus Joe came down from RPI, and the other Joe came up from Buffalo. American Hi-Fi was up first, they were tolerable, but I just can’t dig the whole pop-punk thing. (In other words, it wasnt Velour.) Watched the Jackass video again, then OLP came on to an eager crowd, many of whom were at the Tralf the week before. They played almost the exact same set, opening with Middle of Yesterday, Right Behind You, and the best version of Automatic Flowers I’ve EVER heard! It was the same spread as before, with the same two songs from Happiness. The sound was much clearer at this show, we could acutally hear Raine on his CB mike thingy this time for the intro to Naveed. Julia was missing from the main set, (me and Joe were yelling for it!) and then after 4am in the encore, we yelled it again, and there seemed to be a little confusion on stage. Raine was running around talking to everybody, and simply said, “This is a song called Julia.” The smile never left my face for the entire song as me and Joe screamed the words out. We could kind of see the setlist from our vantage point, and Julia was NOT in the encore on the list! They closed with Starseed, and the place was a frenzy once again! Another excellent show from OLP. who seemed more into the fans here (like the Tralf) than they have been. Complete Setlist: Middle of Yesterday, Right Behind You, Automatic Flowers, Superman’s Dead, Naveed, Car Crash, Are You Sad?, If You Believe, In Repair, Is Anybody Home?, One Man Army, The Birdman, Everyones a Junkie, Life, ENCORE: 4 am, Julia, Starseed
