06/13/2013 Lamb Of God, Decapitated (Rochester, NY @ Water Street Music Hall)
Monday, June 17th, 2013[The Acacia Strain opened, missed them.] As per usual, I arrived after putting Nate to bed, so I missed The Acacia Strain, but got there just as Decapitated was starting up. I don’t know what it is about Poland, but they crank out some super-heavy metal bands (see Behemoth). These guys weren’t as theatrical as […]
06/07/2013 Fuel, Laura Wilde, Melia, Starlight Cities (Rochester, NY @ Montage Music Hall)
Monday, June 10th, 2013[One Sweet Lie was on the bill also, didn’t arrive in time to see them.] I arrived as Starlight Cities came on. They’re a Rochester-based pop-rock band, and were pretty good. A perfect fit to open for Fuel for sure. Not too heavy, not too light, band sounded good, the singer could sing; I’d definitely […]
05/24/2013 Hollywood Undead, American Fangs (Rochester, NY @ Main Street Armory)
Friday, May 31st, 2013[Stellar Corpses, Beware of Darkness also on the bill, didn’t see them.] I’m not the world’s biggest Hollywood Undead fan, but I like them well enough, had the time and energy on the Friday night of a long weekend to go, so I said “what the hell”. I was taken quite aback as I rolled […]
05/18/2013 Korn, Mindset Evolution, Love and Death (Big Flats, NY @ Tag’s Summer Stage)
Thursday, May 23rd, 2013My second show at Tag’s, and my second show with Tiff’s cousins and their friends. Talk about a good time. Nu-metal heaven… Korn, and HEAD’S BACK! We tailgated through most of Love and Death (Head’s other band), and all I could think of was “these guys sound like Adema”. From the parking lot they didn’t […]
04/18/2013 Hatebreed, Every Time I Die, Terror, Job For A Cowboy (Rochester, NY @ Water Street Music Hall)
Thursday, April 18th, 2013[This Is Hell was the first band on, but I missed them.] I walked in pretty much just as Job For A Cowboy were ending their set, so I barely saw them. Not enough to form an impression. But for the rest of the night, one word: ENERGY. I’d seen Terror once before (2007 with […]
03/04/2013 Deftones, The Contortionist (Rochester, NY @ Main Street Armory)
Tuesday, March 5th, 2013The gaps between seeing the Deftones for me unfortunately are of the long variety. Saw them twice in 1998 (the second of which was in this venue!), twice in 2000, then not until 2007, and now five and half years after that I finally got to see them again. Every show had been worth the […]
02/09/2013 Daughtry, 3 Doors Down (Rochester, NY @ Main Street Armory)
Sunday, February 10th, 2013This was one of those shows that I can just go to and have a good time, without having to dissect every little part of it, bemoaning what did and didn’t get played, etc. It’s a “grab a beer, find a decent spot, sing along and enjoy it” show. I grabbed a nice position behind […]
12/14/2012 Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Acaro (Buffalo, NY @ Town Ballroom)
Friday, December 14th, 2012KsE playing “Alive or Just Breathing” front to back? WITH Jesse Leach back in the band? And Shadows Fall opening? YES PLEASE. Acaro was pretty cool, they got the crowd hyped enough, even though they lost the PA during their set. They also completed the Massachusetts band trifecta. Shadows Fall never disappoints… a quick 8-song […]
11/15/2012 Theory of a Deadman, Adelita’s Way (Rochester, NY @ Water Street Music Hall)
Friday, November 16th, 2012A good old-fashioned rock show down at Water Street. Charm City Devils were the first band on, but I didn’t arrive in time to catch them, instead walking in during the set changeover. Found a nice spot in the middle of the floor and Adelita’s Way got started. I’ve missed these guys a couple of […]
08/04/2012 Toadies, Helmet (Rochester, NY @ Water Street Music Hall)
Sunday, August 5th, 2012A total nostalgia-fest with a co-headlining run for the two 90’s alternative mainstays. Helmet was one of those bands that I probably should have gotten into, but just never did. I couldn’t pick a song out of a lineup besides maybe In The Meantime (and I only know that because Soulfly covered it). Anyway, Page […]
